Chapter 48
He pulled a pillow under his head and finally got settled on his back. “Hm?” he said giving me his full attention, he rubbed his face again. He looked so vulnerable, his eyes were tired and not on guard. He was generally relaxed for once.
“My dad is here” I repeated softly playing with the bottom of his hoodie I was wearing. He looked down noticing the movement.
“You–you aren’t going to get in a fight with him are you?” I asked quietly, he looked at me for a minute.
“I cant promise that Kendal”
“But you can try” I said.
“I can” he stated, not saying he would just that he was capable.
“He means a lot to me” I added not that it would make a difference to him.
“I know”
“Then why would you hurt him?”
“Because he’s trying to take you away from me, and that is not acceptable”
“Dez” I began as he noticeably stiffened at the name “I don’t see any point in me being here if you cant stand me” I said calmly even though it pained me to say and for him not to respond. He took in a deep
breath.
“Kendal” he started his voice still rough from sleep. “I’m not letting you go anywhere, you belong to me not him” I sighed and got up and left. I waited patiently on the couch and Dez came into the room, his eyes guarded and his body on alert like he always was, he didn’t spare me a glance. He had on some sweatpants and a maroon t–shirt that complimented his tanned tattooed skin.
He sat down across from my dad on the opposite couch from me. I listened to the sound of their voices for a while. It wasn’t until their tones changed did I listen to their words and start to worry.
“She belongs with who is best with her” my dad said hardly.
“She’s safer on my territory”
“Really? She almost got taken this morning, how is that safe?” my dad demanded, Dez’s pupils dilated and Michael sat forward ready to break up a fight if necessary, Atticus leaned towards me a little probably ready to pick me and take me somewhere else if something happened.

Chapter 48,
“I’m her mate, I’m who she belongs with” Dez growled.
“I think you’ve made it perfectly clear to her that you don’t want her” I looked to the floor, I couldn’t say he was wrong but it still hurt.
“She’s. Still, Mine.” Dez replied each word coming out harsher than the next. I felt the need to submit from the alpha rolling off him in waves.
“So you’re just going to keep her here against her will?” my father asked angrily.
“She’s not your mate, you stay away from her” Dez threatened, my dad sat forward with the challenge
was about to happen.
narrowing his eyes at Dez. I leaned towards Atticus, I knew exactly,
“She’s my daughter, she’s made it perfectly clear she doesn’t want to be with you” Dez’s body jerked off the couch and my father rose up to the threat. I braced myself while they squared up.
“She doesn’t have a choice” Dez stated calmly and that’s what bothered me. He seemed twice as deadly, twice as intimidating, and twice as dangerous when he was completely calm and collected. I was holding my breath watching the scene before me.
“My daughter deserves better than you. I’d die before I let her stay with you” my dad seethed.
“That can be arranged” Dez retorted, and my dad let out a low warning growl.
“I want her safe and happy and she’s neither with you, so watch who you’re threatening Collins, I can and will start a war over her” my dad threatened.
