Silan’s face darkened. As the Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack, he wasn’t used to being 

humiliated–especially by his Luna’s subordinate. 

“You dare speak to me like that? I’m your Alpha’s mate, the son–in–law of the Oakwood Alliance!” 

He quickly adjusted to my new identity and turned to me, his tone ingratiating. 

“Laurel, this is all a misunderstanding. Let’s talk about it back at the packhouse.” 

“I won’t accept rejection.” 

But this wasn’t up to him. My pack council representative stepped forward and said firmly, 

“Alpha Grant, we have substantial evidence of your betrayal of the mate bond. If you refuse to accept 

Laurel’s rejection, we will petition the Alpha King for judgment on grounds of infidelity, treason, and 

irreconcilable differences.” 

Silan frowned, looking at me bitterly. 

“Do you really want to reject me? Why can’t you forgive me just once?” 

I couldn’t help but laugh at his shamelessness. 

“If you don’t accept it, I’ll have your scandalous actions announced at the next Grand Moon Gathering. If you can handle being disgraced in front of every pack, feel free to refuse.” 

With that, I walked past him without a second glance. 

The rejection process went more smoothly than expected. My pup chose to stay with her father. 

When I asked why, she looked at me coldly and said, 

“I don’t want you. You always make me eat healthy and scold me. Aunt Flora lets me have sweets, and she’s fun. I want Daddy to make her my mom.” 

Her childish words cut deeper than I expected. I thought I had hardened myself, but my wolf still whimpered in pain. 

As I left the courthouse, Silan stopped me, his face filled with guilt and desperation. 

“Is there really no chance for us? I know I was wrong, but I’ve changed.”

“Don’t you care that our pup will grow up without her mother? I want to give her a complete family.” 

I smiled coldly, unmoved. 

“Now you care about her? Was she on your mind when you were with Flora?” 

“Stop playing the devoted father. Go back to the den and act for her, not me.” 

Frustrated by my resistance, Silan finally pleaded. 

“I know I don’t deserve your help, but the pack is my life’s work. Please, don’t let it fall apart.” 

His pack was on the verge of collapse–alliances breaking, territory disputes rising, resources running scarce. He was desperate.
