Chapter 132 

Isabel’s asthma attack flared up again. The housekeeper, Madeline Monroe, was giving her medicine. 

The room featured a wooden vanity adorned with a bouquet of magnolias. Isabel used to love vibrant roses, but after Anderson once said she resembled the pure and elegant magnolia, she started keeping them in her 

room. 

“I don’t want it anymore. Take it away,” Isabel said weakly from the bed. She clutched her chest in discomfort as she coughed. 

Madeline couldn’t bear to see her suffer. “Ms. Fisher, why are you doing this to yourself? The doctor said you need to keep taking your medicine or all the effort will be wasted. No matter how good of a man Mr. Barlow is, you shouldn’t jeopardize your health over him.” 

Isabel shook her head. “Madeline, stop comforting me. This illness has 

been with me since the fire. It’s incurable.” 

“Why are you so foolish, Ms. Fisher? Why didn’t you tell Mr. Barlow the truth about that fire? If it weren’t for you, he wouldn’t even be alive today.” 

With a weak voice, Isabel replied, “Don’t bring it up again.” 

Years ago, when Anderson was ten, he accidentally fell asleep in a 

warehouse after playing. A fire broke out. Isabel smelled gas and tried to 

save him but fainted from exhaustion near the door. 

In the end, the domestic staff of the Barlow Estate found them outside the 

warehouse. Anderson mistakenly believed Isabel was the one who saved him as he had briefly woken up and seen her. 

Isabel remembered clearly that she wasn’t the one who saved Anderson. At that time, she didn’t think she would survive either. 

Isabel’s asthma resulted from that incident. From then on, the Barlow 

family treated her as Anderson’s savior. When she became an adult, Anderson announced she would be the future Mrs. Barlow, the heir’s wife.

“That’s enough!” Isabel snapped. She then started coughing violently 

Madeline quickly offered her water. Isabel continued, “The Barlow family’s matters are off limits. No one is to speak a word about it. Do you 

understand?” 

“Yes, Ms. Fisher,” Madeline replied. 

Downstairs, a basin of dirty water was splashed on Hailey’s face, leaving her drenched. She clenched her fists and said nothing as a maid berated her, “Ms. Barlow, you should leave. Mrs. Fisher said if you come back, it 

won’t just be water next time.” 

With her head lowered, Hailey’s voice was barely audible but resolute. “I’ll be back tomorrow.” Despite her disheveled appearance, her elegant face didn’t betray any signs of defeat. 

“You’re such a slut, seducing your own brother. You must be desperate,” one maid sneered.
