“If you leave, what will we tell Mr. Anderson when he gets back?”
Mayra hugged her backpack and smiled at her. “That has nothing to do with me. You wouldn’t even let me eat. When Andy gets back and finds out that I’m gone, he’ll know that you guys were the ones who chased me out. Just wait and suffer the consequences.”
“You…” The maid looked guiltily and angrily at her.
“Why is a young woman like you so evil? We only spoke the truth. You’re just an outsider, and we all have so many things to do. We can’t be bothered with you.
“Besides, we’re the maids that Ms. Fisher hired personally, and she’ll be the mistress of the mansion in the future. Mr. Anderson won’t fire us because of
an outsider.”
Mayra said, “If that’s the case and you’re not scared, why are you stopping me? You didn’t even let me eat. Did you think I was going to let myself just starve here?” Mayra swatted her hand away. “You venomous old hag, don’t block my path.”
