Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James) novel Chapter 1923

Sophie and Colby, along with their crew, were gearing up to leave. The whole entourage in front of us was getting ready to move out. Right then, the police rolled up. Mr. Schuldt, leading the charge, wasted no time in ordering his team to deal with the shipwreck and the bodies scattered from the explosion. The sky was starting to darken.

With nowhere else to turn, Alec and I had no choice but to tag along. At first, I thought we’d managed to sneak under the car unnoticed. But once the car hit the road, I realized they were onto us. Mr. Wesley, the driver, periodically floored the gas, turning the ride into an intense roller coaster. By the time we reached our destination, Alec and I were so dizzy and nauseated that we collapsed on the ground, heaving our guts out.

Adler hopped out of the car, smirking at our sorry state. “Couldn’t handle the ride, huh? And you think you can take us on? Come back when you’ve got a few more years under your belt.”

“Ugh—!” I was doubled over, retching like there was no tomorrow. Alec was doing slightly better, but still managed to throw up quite a bit. Sophie and Colby looked like they were running out of patience.

Mom stepped forward, saying, “I let you go once, and here you are again, practically begging for trouble.”

“Mom…” My head was spinning, and I couldn’t tell if this was all real or just a dream. Focusing on her young, beautiful face, I remembered—it was a dream. The adults in their prime. They were truly something else. Where was my gentle mom? Why was I seeing a mafia queen instead?

Feeling dazed, I mumbled, “We’ve got nowhere else to go. If you’re taking on The Silent Shadows, can we tag along?”

“You silly girl, what makes you think you can take on The Silent Shadows? Planning to be cannon fodder?”
