Chapter 18
Two piles of items sat before Harrison.
The first pile was what Scarlett had someone return to him. He glanced through them and realized they were all things he had given her before.
Most of them were items he had casually told Patrick to buy, so he barely even remembered them.
His expression darkened. Had Scarlett already planned to return everything before she left?
His gaze shifted to the second pile. He recognized them as gifts Scarlett had given him in the past.
Only now did he remember that Scarlett used to love giving him gifts. For his birthday, their anniversary, and on every little occasion, she always had something ready.
He used to find it exhausting. Eventually, he stopped even opening them. Instead, he tossed them all into the basement without a second glance.
And now, Ella had laid them all out in front of him.
Harrison sat there in a daze, slowly unwrapping the dust–covered gifts, one by one.
There was the blessed charm she had gotten for him the year he took his college entrance exams. He recalled that the shrine was known for its miracles, but getting a charm required waiting in line overnight.
There was the scarf she had knitted for his birthday last year. He remembered seeing her practicing. Her fingers were pricked from countless mistakes. It had taken her months to finish that scarf.
And then, there was a stock transfer contract. Last month, he had casually mentioned wanting to acquire a gaming company but couldn’t close the deal. Somehow, she had pulled it off.
There were so many gifts–each one was filled with thought, effort, and love.
And yet, Harrison had never even opened them..
A sharp, tearing pain ripped through his chest.
What had he done? He had taken the heart of a woman like Scarlett and crushed it beneath his feet, all while treasuring a liar like Hazel.
His hands trembled as his eyes landed on the final gift.
