Alicia stared at Tyrone in shock. This… this position between them was hardly appropriate, was it?
Nicole was just as stunned, her face clouded over with anger as she glared at Tyrone.
"Tyrone… I can sit by myself," she mumbled, trying to wriggle out of his arms.
"Just stay put," Tyrone replied, lounging back in the seat with a lazy drawl. He shifted Alicia's legs a little, pulling them into his lap—right so that her long legs blocked Nicole's way.
Nicole's eyes shimmered with frustration, her lips pressed thin as she tried to edge closer to Tyrone, but Alicia's legs stretched across the seat, forcing Nicole to perch at the very edge, fuming in silence.
She had only just returned to the White family, and she still hadn't figured Tyrone out. The look he'd given her earlier was downright terrifying.
Staring nervously out the window, Nicole tried to remind herself to be patient. There was still plenty of time. With the engagement between the White and Lynch families, and all the social ties that bound them, Tyrone would be hers eventually. Once she married him, the first thing she'd do would be to send Alicia packing overseas, never to return.
The drive to the shopping district felt endless with Alicia cradled in Tyrone's lap. At first, she sat up stiff as a board, but as the minutes dragged on and the car crawled through traffic, her muscles grew tired and she had no choice but to relax, shifting gingerly to get comfortable.
Tyrone, noticing how exhausted she was, actually seemed to be in a better mood. Casually, he wrapped his arms around Alicia, trapping her in his embrace. He spoke in a low voice, "Relax a little. And stop squirming around…"
Alicia's cheeks instantly flushed crimson. Sometimes this man was just impossible!
"Tyrone, where are we going, anyway?" Nicole forced a cheerful tone, trying to make conversation.
Tyrone didn't answer.
Undeterred, Nicole pressed on. "So, Tyrone, what do you do for fun when you're not working? Do you play tennis? Or maybe something else? I have all sorts of interests—I'm sure we like some of the same things."
"Free solo climbing. Want to join? No safety ropes, no life insurance payout if you fall," Tyrone replied, glancing at her.
Nicole's smile froze, and she went silent.
Alicia suddenly realized why Tyrone was nearly thirty and had never been in a relationship—he was impossible.
