Alicia had often wondered—if there were no child between her and Tyrone, how long would their marriage really last?

Serena had gotten up and left, Nicole had come back, and she wasn’t pregnant either…

With so many problems piling up, divorce felt inevitable. It was just a matter of time.

Her vision blurred as she sniffed back tears, not even sure why she felt so hurt.

Alicia couldn’t stop the tears from rolling down her cheeks. She quickly wiped them away and slipped upstairs.

Tyrone was in their bedroom, standing by the window, talking on the phone. He hadn’t even gone to take a shower yet.

“I’ll go run the bath,” Alicia said, trying to keep her voice steady as she ducked into the bathroom, hoping he wouldn’t notice her red-rimmed eyes.

She sat on the edge of the tub, waiting for her eyes to clear before facing him again.

But before she was ready, Tyrone walked in.

He came up behind her, lifting her gently and settling her onto the counter.

Alicia startled, reflexively wrapping her arms around him. “Tyrone…”

Her heart was pounding. Embarrassed yet wanting closeness, she reached up to help him out of his shirt.

Tyrone tilted her chin up, peering into her face. “Were you crying?”

“No… no, it’s just the steam from the bath,” she blurted, hugging him tightly so he wouldn’t see her tears.

He rubbed her back in a comforting rhythm, as if soothing away her worries.

But Alicia’s hurt wouldn’t fade, no matter how hard she tried to hold it in. She sniffled softly, then asked in a hesitant whisper, “Tyrone… if I don’t get pregnant this month, will there still be a next month? Will we… still have another chance?”

Would he even let her try again next month?

Tyrone paused, then gently turned her to face him. He looked into her tearful eyes. “If having a baby was that easy, the planet would’ve run out of space a long time ago. We’ll try again next month.”

Alicia nodded, still feeling small and undeserving.

Tyrone smiled, teasing her. “Is that what’s got you so down?”

Alicia shook her head.

He leaned in conspiratorially. “Do you know why Felix didn’t drive me home today?”
