Alicia nodded, her eyes red with unshed tears.
Yvonne sat quietly, watching Alicia and Dean Zachary, lost in silence for a long time.
She felt utterly adrift, like a moth caught in a lampshade, desperate and directionless. Her sister and brother-in-law’s killers were still at large, and she hadn’t found even the faintest clue. Now, she could only clutch at straws—whenever she saw a young woman who resembled her sister and was about Nicole’s age, she’d consider a DNA test, hoping against all odds for an answer.
“Grandpa, I don’t think there’s any point waiting for the test results. Let’s just go. There’s no reason to waste any more time here,” Nicole said, taking the old man’s arm and preparing to leave.
He grunted, getting to his feet and fixing Alicia with a cold stare. “You’d better look after yourself.”
Alicia had managed to offend the Lynch family, the Whites, the Lawsons, the Holloways—she’d really outdone herself, making enemies of every major family in Seaview and Harboridge.
Once the divorce with Tyrone went through, it was obvious her life would only get harder.
So the old man had no intention of dealing with her himself. He’d let others teach her a lesson after the divorce was finalized.
She’d brought all this on herself.
Alicia kept her head down, silent.
As the old man and Nicole reached the door, the hospital director hurried over, holding a fresh set of test results.
Alicia didn’t look up. She didn’t even want to hear the outcome anymore.
The director smiled as he approached the old man. “The blood test results are in.”
The old man gave him a dismissive grunt. “I doubt there’s anything worth seeing.”
“The early pregnancy hormone levels look good. We’ll need to keep an eye on things, but for now, everything’s progressing as it should.” The director handed him the report.
The old man paused, frowning in confusion as he glanced over the paper. “What does this mean?”
The director smiled, rushing to explain. “She’s definitely pregnant. It’s still early, though, so things are a bit unstable.”
Alicia shot to her feet, staring at the director in shock. No way… There had to be a mistake.
