Lawson & Co.
Vincent had just returned from the conference room, seething after another infuriating encounter with his useless half-brother—the illegitimate son that was always a stain on the family name. He dropped into his chair, still fuming, and happened to glance at his phone. That’s when he saw a new post from Alicia.
She never posted on social media. Not once in all the years he’d known her.
But today, there it was—a photo of her with Tyrone.
They were at the beach. Alicia was wearing a beautiful summer dress, her smile pure and radiant, laughter caught midair. She looked genuinely, unreservedly happy.
In four years, Vincent had never seen Alicia smile like that.
Something in him went rigid. A hollow exhaustion swept over him, heavier than anything he’d felt in years.
For the past four years, whenever life wore him down, he’d always find himself drifting to Alicia’s side. It was as if just being near her could ease every ache, every burden, even if he never admitted it out loud.
But now, the little bird he’d kept so carefully, the one he’d thought belonged to him, was gone.
Maybe she’d never belonged to him at all.
Back at the beginning, Alicia had only agreed to be with him because she was desperate for a home, for a sense of belonging she’d never known.
His frustration spiked. Vincent slammed his phone onto the desk, the impact echoing in his office. He stood up abruptly, intent on storming out.
But after a few steps, he stopped, uncertain. Where was he going to go? To find Alicia? She was Tyrone’s wife now. As long as Tyrone refused to let go, Alicia would never come back to him.
Vincent’s gaze darkened. Slowly, he returned to his seat.
He needed to focus on what mattered: making sure Tyrone and Alicia were divorced as quickly as possible.
His assistant entered quietly. Vincent glanced up, voice cold and clipped. “Did you get what I asked for?”
“I looked into Tyrone’s father as you requested,” the assistant said, keeping his tone low. “There are a few leads, but the man is very good at covering his tracks. It’ll take more time. But I can confirm—Tyrone’s father only faked his death years ago. He did it to escape Mr. Maddox’s control...”
Vincent’s eyes narrowed, a slow, satisfied smile tugging at his lips. “Keep digging.”
