Valery never got much respect from the rest of the family. To them, she was the very picture of small-town greed, want practically radiating from her eyes. But, to her credit, she’d raised a son who was said to be sharp as a tack—a straight-A student, even top of his class in the national exams.
With the right guidance, that boy could go far, maybe even rival Tyrone one day.
Besides, the Lynches were businesspeople through and through. They knew that letting Tyrone have all the power wasn’t in their best interest, especially since some of them hoped to line their own pockets quietly. Tyrone, though, was the sort who wouldn’t tolerate even a hint of impropriety.
But with Easton back in the picture, things changed. Now there was competition, and the side branches of the family suddenly mattered again. Their support could tip the balance—and, conveniently, those little side deals might slip by unnoticed.
“So I heard you have another son. Where is he? Why didn’t you bring him along?” One of the aunts smiled slyly. “Fairview told me he’s really something—top of his class, right?”
At the mention of their son, pride lit up Valery and Marcus’s faces. Easton was their trump card—the reason they dared return to the Lynch family at all.
Marcus knew perfectly well he’d signed away his inheritance years ago, acknowledging he didn’t have what it took to run Lynch Corporation. All he and Valery had left was their son, Easton.
And Tyrone—well, Tyrone despised him. There was no chance he’d let Marcus come back into the family fold.
“Easton? He’s still in Seaview City,” Valery replied, her smile broadening. “He’s bright, hardworking, wants to make his own way—pays his own tuition, too.”
The aunts all nodded, chiming in with approving murmurs. “Such a good boy, taking pride in the family name and still so driven. Reminds me of the old man in his youth.”
At that, one of the uncles shot a glance at the patriarch.
