Easton frowned, falling silent.
The butler raised his hand in a silent gesture, signaling Easton to follow him.
“Mr. Marcus, you and your wife must be exhausted. Why don’t you take a seat over there and rest for a while?” Marcus and Valery started to follow Easton, but the butler politely blocked their way.
It was obvious—the old man wanted to see Easton alone.
Valery’s anxiety showed on her face. She worried about Easton’s stubborn streak. Please, she thought, don’t let him turn down whatever the old man is offering.
“Easton, if you won’t do it for yourself, at least think of your father and me,” Valery urged, her voice tight with concern.
Easton didn’t respond. He simply walked into the study.
Outside, Valery and Marcus waited nervously, both fearing Easton would refuse everything.
“Don’t fret,” Marcus murmured, trying to reassure her as he settled onto a bench in the garden, picking at a platter of fruit the housekeeper had brought out. “If Nicole agrees to marry Easton, then whether he wants anything from the family or not will be his choice.”
“Young master…”
At the door, the butler and staff exchanged uneasy glances as Tyrone strode in. They hesitated—unsure whether to stop him or let him pass.
Why did young master Tyrone have to show up right now?
“Young master…” the butler called anxiously, rushing out to intercept him. “Your grandfather isn’t feeling well. Please, don’t upset him today.”
Tyrone glanced toward Marcus and Valery sitting in the courtyard, a cold smile on his lips. “Is Grandpa really unwell? Or did he just find himself a new heir?”
The butler drew a shaky breath, lowering his voice. “Master Tyrone… Easton is still a Lynch by blood. Letting him wander out there on his own just isn’t right…”
