Nicole White shot Tyrone Lynch a mocking look. “Hmph, just a stray dog who got thrown out of his own house. I don’t believe the old man would ever take him back.”
Kenney Lockwood regarded Nicole coolly, his gaze dark. “Miss White, your manners are truly… eye-opening.”
Jade White arched an eyebrow, her tone edged with suspicion. “Mr. Lockwood, are you planning to stand up for Tyrone? Or is it that you want to poach him for your company?”
Evercrest Group had only been around a few years, but its meteoric rise had put even the Lawsons on guard—and the White family, too, couldn’t afford to ignore them.
Jade’s words hung pointedly in the air. Kenney smiled faintly. “You’re quite right, Miss White. I’m always on the lookout for talent. If someone like Mr. Lynch were willing to join Evercrest Group, we would welcome him with open arms.”
Jade’s heart skipped a beat. She couldn’t let Tyrone end up at Evercrest Group.
“Mr. Lockwood, Evercrest is at a crucial stage right now—this is the time for growth. You know how many bridges Tyrone has burned. There’s no need to take such a risk and stir up unnecessary trouble for your company,” she pressed, lowering her voice.
She gave Kenney a pointed look. “Besides, you’re just the CEO. Everyone’s heard about your mysterious chairman—a business genius, no less. I doubt someone like that would let you bring on board such a liability.”
Tyrone only raised an eyebrow, sipping his champagne and watching the show. Alicia Shelton ducked her head, trying to hide a smile as she sipped her juice.
Keep it up, Jade, she thought. The more you brag about Evercrest’s brilliant chairman, the harder you’ll have to eat your words when you find out it’s Tyrone.
Alicia was starting to understand why Tyrone kept some things from her. If she knew the truth, she’d never be able to keep a straight face—she was already struggling not to laugh.
She worried that even a slip would give the whole thing away.
Suddenly, a man stepped forward from the crowd. “Mr. Lynch, we’re from Havencrest Construction. We worked with you on that stonework project last year. Even though you’ve left Lynch Corporation, our doors at Havencrest are always open to you.” He handed Tyrone a business card, undaunted by the prospect of offending the Whites.
Tyrone accepted the card with a polite smile. “Thank you.”
