Chapter 38 I’m Done With
Your Nonsense
Jeff and his team had already claimed their uniquely large supply crate. The size was imposing.
Their gear, far more menacing than the students‘ equipment, included rifles and sniper rifles, a stark contrast to the simple pistols the students held.
Dressed in tactical camouflage, they were prepared for serious combat.
Instant panic would likely ensue among the students if they caught sight of this setup.
“Captain, there were gunshots to the east. It sounds like the students are engaging. Should we intervene?” one of them inquired.
Now armed, the logical next step was to engage the students.
Jeff consented to the action.
Given the vastness of the forest and their familiarity with the terrain, a slow search seemed inefficient. Moving towards the sounds of conflict was the more practical approach.
“Captain, go ahead with the team. I’ll handle that overly confident girl we saw earlier,” Max interjected, hefting his sniper rifle.
Being humiliated by a young woman was something he’d never experienced before.
Another man chimed in, “Absolutely, Captain. If we focus on the inner area and ignore her, she’ll slip away easily.”
Maren’s demeanor had not only challenged Max but had left the whole team annoyed.
Who were these men?
They were battle–hardened warriors.
Accepting an insult passively was not in their nature.
“Alright. You two team up and take care of it.” Jeff consented after a moment’s pause, seeing the validity in their argument.
Max then confidently interjected, “Captain, sending two might be overkill. She’s just one young woman. If we go in force, it could look like we’re ganging up on her.”
Indeed, she was merely a defiant young woman. Max was determined to demonstrate his formidable capabilities to her.
“Fine, Max. Stay in touch and join us right after,” Jeff replied, handing him a communicator.

“Understood, Captain! The mission will be accomplished!”
Now with the go–ahead, Max, with a sense of pride gripping his sniper rifle, hastened towards the perimeter.
“You won’t see it coming,” Max whispered under his breath.
“Why are they taking so long?” Maren murmured to herself, peering from her tree branch hideout across the expanse of forest.
Eventually, she saw a group advancing silently and methodically.
At last, they had arrived.
This was precisely what she had intended when she fired those earlier shots–to lure these hunters.
“Why is someone missing?”
With her keen vision, Maren quickly spotted an absence in their ranks. When she recognized the missing person as the man she’d pointed a gun at earlier, a subtle smile formed on her lips.
As Jeff’s team drew nearer and observed Morris‘ and Hannah’s teams, Jeff opted not to engage immediately. Instead, he signaled for his team to fan out and encircle the students quietly, ensuring they didn’t raise the alarm too soon.
“Time to accelerate things,” Maren whispered, lining up her sights on the squabbling group below and squeezing the trigger, striking a member of Hannah’s team.
Bang!
The gunshot abruptly redirected everyone’s focus.
“Who did it?” Jeff asked his team.
“It wasn’t us, Captain…”
His team members quickly disclaimed any involvement.
Puzzled, Jeff halted, reassessing the situation. The shot had been nearby, yet it was clear it hadn’t come from any of his men.
While Jeff’s team maintained their cool, chaos erupted among Morris‘ and Hannah’s groups.
“Morris! What’s the meaning of this?” Hannah yelled, her weapon aimed at Morris.
In a panic, Morris‘ temper surged. “Hannah, are you out of your mind? Lower your gun!”
“Your team fired at us, and you claim innocence?” Hannah accused angrily.
“When have we fired at you? That shot was clearly from Maren…” Morris attempted to clarify desperately.
However, Hannah was not swayed. “Maren? That’s absurd! You claim she’s nearby, yet our search turned up nothing. Where is she hiding? Just admit–it–you probably took the supplies yourself!”
