It was evening when Nathan returned to his home located at Riverside. At this time, his mother-in-law had already prepared the food.
Benson, Kylie, and Queenie were already sitting at the table, ready to have dinner.
Noticing that Penny was nowhere to be seen, Nathan frowned and asked, "Where's Penny?"
Benson answered with a bitter smile, "She's working overtime with some of the executives of the company. It seems like the company has run into a huge trouble. She wants to discuss it with everyone so they can come up with a plan to prevent it from worsening.”
It turned out that although Penny had decided to not compromise with the Pirate King's demand of paying the ten billion toll, she knew that by going against the Pirate King's extortion, they would evoke the wrath of the Pirate King, Odysseus Blackwood. So she wanted to discuss with the executives of the company to formulate a set of follow-up protocols.
Nathan didn't know whether to laugh or to cry. "I already told her I would settle this trivial matter. I guess she's still worried after all. Forget it. You all can have dinner without me. I'll stop by the company for a bit."
As soon as he finished speaking, Nathan grabbed his car keys and left.
At that moment, it was already nightfall. The city lights shone brightly under the night sky.
When Nathan reached Cross Group, it was already about seven in the evening.
There was a long table in the middle of the conference room. Sitting on both sides of the table were the executives of Cross Group. Penny, on the other hand, was sitting in the chair of the president and presided over the meeting.
The main issue that was being discussed at the meeting was Cross Group's rejection of the Pirate King's extortion. The executives were at a loss of what to do should the Pirate King, Odysseus
Blackwood, decided to take revenge on Cross Group, and perhaps even going as far as to murder them.
Just then, the people who suggested paying the toll to save themselves before began clamoring in succession.
"We should have gone with my suggestion and paid them the toll to ensure our safety."
"That's right. Now that we've rejected paying them, we'll be facing the wrath of Odysseus Blackwood and his men. Who's to say we'll make it out of this alive?"
