Tears welled up in Ava's eyes at her words. She realized she couldn't persuade Penny to leave.
Wiping her tears away, she regained her composure and shouted, “Everyone from Cross Group, listen. Let's help the kids who have fainted from inhaling too much smoke and Ms. Molven to get on the aerial ladder. We'll stay behind with Mrs. Cross.”
The others were touched by Penny's decision.
The executives immediately vowed to let the elderly and the young escape first.
Everyone put their act together to help out.
Soon, the aerial ladder descended with Dorthea and a few unconscious orphans.
The reporters clicked on their cameras furiously to record this scene. When the onlookers realized the first batch of rescued victims was coming down, they immediately cheered.
Curious, the reporters began reporting. “We received news that the president of Cross Group, Penny Smith, was trapped inside, alongside others from the orphanage. Why isn't she among the first ones to get rescued?”
The reporters were shocked, let alone Santiago and Phoebe, who were hiding in their car.
As the aerial ladder brought more and more trapped victims down, soon, most of the kids had been rescued.
Alas, the fire had already spread to the seventh floor by now.
Penny was still nowhere to be seen.
Phoebe sneered. “Ha! She must've told others to escape first. Look, the fire is engulfing the building now. Even if she isn't burned to death, she would've died from inhaling too much smoke.”
Santiago was all smiles. “That's what we want, right?”
The situation was getting out of hand.
Ava dashed back and forth to place the kids on the aerial ladder.
By now, only a few of them were still trapped up there.
