When Garrett saw that Nathan had killed the assassin, he couldn't help but ask, “Why didn't you keep him alive so that we can find out who sent him?”
Nathan plainly replied, “Because this matter has to be kept a secret.”
Garrett was briefly stunned before regaining his senses quickly.
Now was a crucial time for the Presidential elections. Clifford and Zion were the favorites to win followed by Garrett.
It wasn't the right time for Garrett to show his strength as he wanted Zion and Clifford to face off with each other first.
Hence, his current strategy was to keep a low profile and pretended he was in the race just to make up the numbers. By throwing off his enemies, he hoped to reduce the animosity from Zion and Clifford's camps.
Or else, if they were aware of Garrett's ambition, they might decide to take him, the dark horse, out of the equation before their own showdown.
Garrett understood the importance of keeping a low profile. Hence, he had been trying to stay out of the limelight recently.
Furthermore, he wasn't ready to let others know that he had the support of Nathan, Zach, and Lucas.
That was the reason he held a clandestine meeting with them.
Therefore, Nathan killed the assassin so that they could maintain their low profile and not attract any attention to the secret meeting they were having.
Nathan replied with a smile, “Besides, this man is an elite assassin and it would be impossible to find out who his employer was. After all, he was most likely hired anonymously.”
“On top of that, the assassin was coming for me. It doesn't take a genius to figure out who my biggest enemy recently is. Hence, there's no need to even investigate.”
Having heard Nathan, the same two names flashed across everyone's mind: The Davier family or the Goldstein family?
Garrett murmured, “Are you planning to let the matter slide for the time being?”
Nathan nodded. “It will have to wait till after the presidential elections.”
Garrett and the others agreed with Nathan. Their priority was to win the elections. Everything else will just have to wait till then.
Obviously, if Clifford won the elections for President, he would be the one to come after them instead.
