Zachery casually swirled at his champagne glass while he said nonchalantly to Toby, “I was told that you rule the South underworld. I am prepared to afford you the opportunity to work for me. However, you've disappointed me. I'll give you two options - you may either make up for your mistake or I'll have my men send you guys off this yacht.”
Colors drained from Toby's face; he felt dryness in his throat. He wanted so badly to distance himself from this deadly figure, but it was all too late by the time he realized Zachery was not someone he could mess around with.
As if I have a choice! If I choose the latter, it will just mean death for all of us!
Knowing he was left with no viable alternative, Toby gritted his teeth, picked up the knife from the coffee table, and chopped off his own left little finger in one swift movement.
“Ahh!” Toby let out a groan as the intense pain caused his face to distort. Cold sweat trickled down his face as he tried to suppress his agony.
This sight was painful to watch for Toby's men as well as the women next to Zachery. They certainly did not sign up for this.
With great effort, Toby spoke in a restrained voice, “I hope you are pleased now, Mr. Hackett.”
Zachery smiled in return, “Well, I'm not displeased. Since you've chosen to collaborate with me, I'll make sure you get your fair share when my enemy is done with. I believe in giving credit when it's due.”
Toby's expression was complicated as he carefully replied, “Thank you, Mr. Hackett.”
Zachery then handed him a glass of champagne and said with a smile, “So, back to business. The stuff that I've asked you to do... What have you got for me?”
Toby wrapped a handkerchief around his wound before he took over the glass of champagne from Zachery, but he dared not take a sip. He reported in a subdued manner, “Mr. Hackett, I can confirm that Nathan has indeed been stripped of his military position. He is now just an ordinary citizen who spends most of his time at home with his family.”
Zachery was a little taken aback by this piece of news. “The Eurasia military should be familiar with my old nemesis' capability. It's rather strange that they are kicking him out instead of making full use of his combative skills.”
