Salute To The General (Nathan Cross) novel Chapter 1869

Back at the Davier residence, Clifford and Yosef were having a simple meal together.

On the table were some boiled broccoli, mushroom soup, and some strip cheese.

Clifford was watching his diet, so he had been eating clean for some time. The two sat at the table and ate quietly.

Seeing that his dad had finished his soup, Yosef offered to get him some. “Dad, I'll get you more soup.

“I'm good. Just a few more broccolis will do,” Clifford replied.

“Sure.”

Yosef subserviently took his plate and got his father more vegetables as he thought about how he should bring the matter up.

“Dad, I met someone today,” he said as he put the plate down in front of Clifford.

“Who is it?”

“Nathan...”

Clifford froze momentarily as he picked up his fork. Yet, he quickly collected himself and asked calmly, “I thought he's back in Channing. What brings him here?”

“I have no idea. I wanted to teach him a good lesson when I saw him, but Mr. Windsor came to his rescue. He's probably back because he's unhappy about his dismissal. I bet he knew our family would not go easy on him, so he came to ask Mr. Windsor to help him regain his position.”

Regain his position?

A mocking smile broke out on Clifford's face.

“Hansel has already retired, so what can he do to help him? There's no way he can get his position back,” Clifford scoffed.

Yosef rolled his eyes and nodded in agreement. “I know, right? After all he did to our family, there's no way he can return to power. Our family will be the first to object to it.”

Although Clifford was not as verbal as his son, the abhorrence in his eyes glistered furiously like diamonds in the dark.
