“Greetings, President Woods!” Clifford and the others said in unison.
“Good morning, everyone!” Garrett replied with a smile.
Then, he pointed at Nathan and said, “Let me introduce someone. This is the Chief Military Governor I appointed.”
“Good day to all of you!” Nathan greeted in a deep voice.
Then, Will and the other soldiers held up a hand in salutation. “Greetings, Chief Military Governor!”
However, Clifford, Jothan, Zion, and the other Cabinet members did not greet Nathan but exchanged glances with each other.
All the cabinet members turned to look at Clifford.
Understanding their intention, Clifford took two steps forward and queried politely, “President Woods, is he the Chief Military Governor you appointed?”
“Yes, Mr. Davier. Is there any problem?” Garrett grinned as he spoke.
“Not at all! But given that the Chief Military Governor holds the highest military command across the whole nation, it is a significant position that comes with a huge responsibility. So, I think even if you have appointed him, he should show us his capability to get our approval first,” replied Clifford.
Upon hearing that, Garrett furrowed his brows.
He knew that he couldn't elect anyone without getting Clifford and the other Cabinet members' permission because he was a new president.
Hence, he cast a glance at Zion, Jothan, and the others as he inquired, “Do you have the same thoughts?”
Not daring to make eye contact with Garrett, they lowered their heads and replied, “Yes, we think so as well. The Chief Military Governor is an important position, so the candidate must be a capable person. Please think twice before making the decision, President Woods!”
Hearing that, a trace of anger flashed across Garrett's eyes.
Meanwhile, Clifford darted a glance at Nathan and continued, “President Woods, we don't mean to go against you. We're only doing this for our country's sake. As of now, we know nothing about the Chief Military Governor at all, including his appearance. So it's only natural for us to have doubts about his capability in handling the military defense affairs of the nation.”
Garrett flew into a rage when he heard Clifford's words.
Actually, the former had long known that implementing a new policy would affect the power and status of the cabinet members and that they would definitely object to it.
