Salute To The General (Nathan Cross) novel Chapter 1878

Everyone present on the scene stared at Nathan with widened eyes.

They were all stunned upon hearing that the Chief Military Governor had accepted the proposal of waging war against Xyperia to prove his own strength!

“Since the Chief Military Governor is confident in his abilities, he should take over the North Army. Once you've managed to defeat Xyperia, the entire military will be yours to command,” Garrett said with an amused smile.

“Yes, Sir,” Nathan replied in a low voice.

Suddenly, Clifford interjected the conversation with a proposition of his own. “Mr. President, shouldn't there be a punishment alongside the prize? If he is successful in crushing Xyperia, he will be the Chief Military Governor of Eurasia's entire military might. But if he does not succeed and taints our country with shame, what will be his punishment?”

His daring question left the onlookers astonished. Everyone's anxious gaze was now focused on Garrett and Nathan.

Garrett's expression fell when he heard those words. “How do you suggest we punish him?” He asked coldly.

“It is crucial that we win this battle within a month without any delays. If it drags on any longer, we'll become vulnerable and the neighboring countries may seize this opportunity to invade us,” Clifford replied calmly.

“If the Chief Military Governor loses this war or fails to end it within a month, he should be stripped of all his titles and status. Furthermore, he should face a military tribunal, which will then decide on his punishment. Also...” “There's more?” Garrett's mood darkened.

“Mr. President, as you recommended the Chief Military Governor to his current position, you should also be held accountable,” Clifford replied, “How will you take the responsibility for your actions?”

“If the Chief Military Governor faces defeat, do you want me to give up my position as President?” Garrett questioned him coldly.

“I dare not demand so much,” Clifford lowered his head as he spoke, “But if the Chief Military Governor fails, it proves that the President's recommendation is unsuitable. In that case, the Cabinet should recommend a new candidate to be the next Chief Military Governor.”

“Very well,” Garrett agreed with a strained smile to hide his growing anger. “So not only is there no trust in our Chief Military Governor, but there's also no trust in me.”

Garrett made a decision. “Alright, let's do this. If the Chief Military Governor manages to defeat Xyperia, he will be given command of the entire military force. But if he fails, the role will be filled by another candidate based on the Cabinet's voting.”

“Yes Mr. President,” Clifford said humbly but there was a trace of triumphant glee in his eyes as he bowed.

Garrett did not spare Clifford another glance. Instead, he turned to address the group of military leaders on the field.

“Fang will temporarily lead the North Army!” he announced in a booming tone.

“Understood!” Fang responded loudly.

“Starting today, the North Army will be led by the Chief Military Governor. Everyone should obey his commands to defeat Xyperia and maintain peace in the North. Are there any questions?” Garrett asked the soldiers.
