Fang, Destroyer, and Heptakill were rendered speechless.
So were the guards positioned in the meeting room, and the staff responsible for refilling beverages; they stiffened in bafflement.
The Three Tigers looked at Nathan.
Fang thought to himself, It's a shame we can't reveal sir's true identity. Otherwise, the men wouldn't have caused so much trouble.
Of course, he also knew that Nathan's identity could not be disclosed because the more people knew, the more danger it posed against Nathan.
To make things worse, Nathan was appointed Chief Military Governor on probationary terms. Mr. Davier's loyal followers in the Great Cabinet had even sent staff to scrutinize Nathan's every move.
If word got out to Mr. Davier that the Chief Military Governor was actually Nathan, then the Great Cabinet would surely oppose. They would do everything in their power to remove Nathan from that position.
By officially appointing Nathan as Chief Military Governor, Mr. Davier and the others would have to forgo their plotted revenge against Nathan.
By granting Nathan absolute power, it would put their own positions at risk.
Therefore, the Chief Military Governor's identity must never be disclosed; the fewer people in the loop about his identity, the safer Nathan was.
However, staying undercover caused some problems too. The men clearly didn't trust the Chief Military Governor, and they wanted their
General back.
Fang, Destroyer and Heptakill turned towards Nathan, unsure of how he would resolve this.
Nathan looked around the crowd before his eyes settled on Myron. He calmly spoke, “The General has been assigned other nationally significant tasks as of now, so please trust in your nation's leaders and don't cause more trouble for your General.
“I understand that you desperately want your General to return and lead you.
“But have you considered that your kind intentions may not be what the General wants?”
Everyone, including Cyril and Myron, was stunned as their thoughts scattered across the room.
That's true.Everyone's been fussing for the General to be reinstated ever since he was unfairly dismissed. But what if the General himself asked to be dismissed? What if it would only bring him more trouble? What if the General currently had enough on his plate, and bringing him back would burden him more?Maybe the General had returned to his family, living comfortably with his wife, his child, and a roof above his head... How could they heartlessly force him back to the battlefield?
