Salute To The General (Nathan Cross) novel Chapter 2013

Chief Military Governor?

Nathan surveyed the bruised and bloody figure on the floor at his feet.

This fool has some nerve impersonating the Chief Military Governor. Nathan was thoroughly amused.

“Does he have what it takes to be the Chief Military Governor?” He laughed lightly.

“If Mr. Khaiden is not worthy, are you?” Sophia laughed in derision. “You've made a major mistake assaulting him. You're finished.”

Nathan was about to expose Raida as an imposter, but Kylie pulled at Nathan's arm in fright.

“Nathan, let's leave,” she whispered. “If he really is the Chief Military Governor, we'll be in big trouble.”

Though Kylie admired and idolized him, she still feared for his safety.

If Raida really was the Chief Military Governor, Nathan wouldn't be able to go against him, much less assault him. He could be executed for this.

“Don't be afraid, Kylie,” Nathan said. “This fool is not the Chief Military Governor.”

“But Nathan, how do you know that he's not?” Kylie was confused.

“Yes, what makes you so sure that Mr. Khaiden is not the Chief Military Governor?” Sophia sneered at Nathan.

“If you must know, the identity of the Chief

Military Governor is a closely guarded secret,”

Nathan explained. “When he is in view of the public, he will be dressed in his phoenix military coat and donned in his Leviathan mask. This is to conceal his true identity.”

“Mr. Cross, how could you be so sure that Mr. Khaiden is not the Chief Military Governor?” Sophia said.

Nathan paused. This is a difficult one to navigate.

Of course, he couldn't reveal himself to be the Chief Military Governor. But how does that prove that Raida is absolutely not the Chief Military Governor without compromising his secret? Nathan couldn't help noticing that when he asserted without hesitation that Raida is not the Chief Military Governor, Sophia became irrationally suspicious. If he was right and if she were to deduce that he, Nathan, was the Chief

Military Governor, it could backfire on him trying to protect his secret identity
