“What! They arrested Langston and the rest?” Clifford's roar was deafening.
He had been waiting eagerly for the good news while he entertained his guests.
However, the good news did not arrive, but the bad news came.
His source told him that some military figures were at Mandarin Hotel to celebrate Nathan's birthday. Langston and his party had angered those men while trying to settle scores with Nathan. They then detained Langston and the others in Oxen Prison.
Rage pulsed through Clifford's veins as he slammed his palm on the table.
“I am in good relations with the President and Chief Military Governor. Which brainless soldier dares to touch my men?” he asked impatiently while stroking his beard.
Spook answered in respect. “Mr. Davier, some military personnel have entered the city incognito. They are all here in a personal capacity to celebrate Nathan's thirtieth birthday. We have confirmed that the Commander-In-Chief of the North and his two deputies, and the Commander-In-Chief of Capital Garrison, were present. As for the rest of his guests, we are still investigating.”
“Those three men from the North were previously Nathan's subordinates. Even though he has gotten the sack, it is normal that they are still on his side,” Clifford replied nonchalantly.
“As for the Commander-In-Chief of Capital Garrison, Will Long, he was promoted by Hansel personally. Since Nathan is Hansel's student, it is also understandable for them to side with each other. If Nathan thinks he can challenge me with his ex-counterparts' help, he is too naive.”
The rest of the guests at the Daviers urged, “Mr. Davier, what should we do next?”
Clifford commanded, “Send men to Oxen Prison immediately and demand for the release of my men.
“What if they refuse? Oxen Prison is part of the military prison belonging to Will. Since he has detained Langston and the rest there personally, he might not be willing to release them.” Valois interrupted.
Clifford smirked and replied, “I have already liaised with the Chief Military Governor. If he won't be going against me, Will Long is just a nobody?”
With that, he shouted for a subordinate.
A tall, middle-aged man with an eye patch on his left eye appeared in front of Clifford immediately. “Tyron is here! Please give your instructions, sir!”
Tyron was a former captain of Eurasia's Draconians. However, he was court-marshalled and received the harshest sentence for his grave mistake.
During that period, he escaped his punishment and left the Draconians to serve the Daviers as their household attendant.
