The Eurasian fleet left Avenport and disappeared from view right after that.
Catherine stood at the port and gazed at the part of the horizon where the fleet vanished. She let out a sigh. “Even with all the stars aligned, there isn't anyone in the world like him.”
“Why is fate cruel enough to let me meet such a perfect man but not let me have him?
“As the beautiful moonlight recedes, out comes the long and dark night.
“If I lived my life over at the darkness and not have gazed upon the beauty of the moonlight, perhaps I would have been happier.”
Her guards exchanged looks when they heard the Duchess' self-pitying monologue.
They knew that the Duchess had never been in love before. But she had fallen in love with the God of War from Eurasia.
The heartbreaking news was that he was already married.
It was a stormy night at sea for the Eurasian troops heading home.
Colin came in with a report within a few hours of commencing their journey.
“Chief Military Governor, the commander-in-chief of the South, Zach Hill, is coming to escort us. Everybody is asked to board the Conlan.”
It turned out that the military was concerned for Nathan's safety for attending the Joint Naval Exercise of a Hundred Nations.
Even though the foreigners did not know that Nathan was the Chief Military Governor of Eurasia, his reputation for being the God of War had granted him many enemies.
The military took the precaution of assigning Zach Hill to aid Nathan at the Pacific Ocean. He led the navy and the aircraft carriers - The Conlan and the Mountain, to appear for intimidation purposes.
“Since Admiral Hill has arrived, let's get on board,” Nathan said.
At the deck, all he could see before him were the carriers and warships, like a city of steel rising above the waves. Up in the sky, fighter jets whistled by.
“Back in the day in the North,” Nathan told Colin and the rest, “We only had a tank. This city of steel on the ocean was something we rarely saw. It struck us with awe every time we looked at it, and our love for our country just burns brighter.”
