“How much does he owe you?” Nathan asked the triangular-eyed man indifferently.
In response, the man sized Nathan up and sneered, “Why do you care? Are you a friend of this cripple here? Is that why you want to help him repay his debt? Fine by me. He owes me three hundred thousand. Now, pay up!”
Amos' face immediately hardened when he heard the triangular-eyed man. “Rattlesnake, that's not what we agreed to. I only borrowed thirty thousand from you because my girlfriend needed the money for her surgery. And I've been paying you back in installments, so how is it that I owe you three hundred thousand? That's ten times the amount you lent me!”
The triangular-eyed man named Rattlesnake chuckled as if Amos had just told him a joke. “Come on, please don't joke. It's not like you don't know that I do this for a living. I told you that I'd charge you interest when you borrowed money from me. As time went by, thirty thousand snowballed into three hundred thousand. That's normal.”
“Fine. One way or another, I'll figure something out to get you your money. But I don't have it today, so can you please come back another day? For the sake of my friends,” pleaded Amos, gritting his teeth.
When Nathan, Colin, and the Elite Eight saw how Amos responded, they could not help but furrow their eyebrows.
Back in the day, Amos was one of the most fearsome men in the army, so they did not
expect that the man would lose his edge in just three years. They sighed to themselves when they witnessed how helpless the veteran had become.
Rattlesnake's face instantly turned grim when he heard that Nathan and the others had no intention of paying him.
Upset, the man then spat on Amos' worn leather shoes and cursed, “Da*n you people! You made me think that you were ready to help this cripple pay his debt. Just why the heck would you ask me how much he owes when you have no intention of paying?”
However, since Rattlesnake could see how well-built Nathan and the others were, he dared not to do anything rashly.
He turned around and was about to leave with
his men after ranting but Nathan voiced, “Wait!” “What now?” questioned Rattlesnake as he gave the man an impatient look.
Amos knew what Nathan had in mind then, so he quickly whispered to the man, “Just let them go. You don't have to do this.”
“Don't worry. I have the situation under control,” assured Nathan confidently.
When Amos left the army, Nathan just so happened to be promoted to the Commander-In-Chief of the North Army. That was why he held Nathan in high regard and decided to let the man be.
