He needs to ask for the favor with humility!
The Smith family secretly cheered when Nathan told Tye off bluntly after he acted arrogantly despite being there to ask for a favor.
Tye's face turned red from anger when he heard Nathan's words.
He had not expected a young chap to dare rebuff him, as even Sean was very respectful to him.
He glared furiously at Nathan and roared, “What did you just say, punk?” Nathan nonchalantly retorted, “Are you getting old and deaf? I said if you are begging for help, you do so with humility. If you want to throw your weight around, do so somewhere else. We don't welcome that attitude here!”
Well said!
Everyone in the Smith family grinned in approval at Nathan's retort. Some of the young ones even cheered out loud.
Even Sean was secretly pleased with Nathan for standing up against Tye.
Tye was enraged, and he stood there frozen briefly, his eyes widened in anger.
He knew Nathan was the former Commander-in-Chief of the North Army, but he too was a prestigious deputy governor of the South during his heyday.
He knew both of them were past their prime and no longer the powerful men they used to be. However, being much older than Nathan, he had expected some respect as an elder. He could not accept being told off by a young punk!
The man was about to fly into a rage when one of his followers came up to him and whispered, “Mr. Carlson, we are here to help Mr. Rivera with Mr. Mateo's case. We need them to drop charges so Mr. Mateo can be released from police detention. It will be more advisable to ignore Nathan and get our mission accomplished first!”
That made Tye set his priorities straight, so he suppressed his anger and reluctantly tried to persuade Nathan again.
“Nathan, I came here to help Mr.
Rivera mediate Mateo's case. I hope you can drop charges on my account. What do you say?” There was a strained look on his face when he said that.
All eyes were on Nathan as they waited in anticipation of his reply.
“I am sorry, but Mateo broke the law, and the relevant authorities are looking into it now. I don't have the right to interfere in their work,” Nathan replied coldly.
