Nathan's frown grew deeper. After a moment of silence, he finally replied, “Lucas, I know where you are coming from and how you are determined to get rid of your enemies. However, if you go into war, you will lose many innocent lives. Besides, despite Volk's antics and Isaiah's constant taunts, they also have internal disputes. Not all of them share the same sentiments on going to war with us. Besides, there are rumors that the Eight-Nation Alliance are pulling countries around us to join them and take us down. Volk is on their list. Currently, Volk is still considering whether to join the Eight-Nation Alliance to attack us or continue to remain at peace with us.”
Then, Nathan turned to Lucas and continued, “If I give you special authority to launch a war with them, Volk will be more cautious, and it will only push them to join the Eight-Nation Alliance. That will only make matters worse.”
Despite Nathan's detailed explanation, Lucas looked upset. “Who cares if we have to face more enemies? Volk is small and poses no threat to us. Isn't Xyperia a lot bigger than them? Yet, you still led the North Army to clinch the victory against them. Why can't I lead the West Army to take down
Volk?
Exasperated, Nathan stated, “You know that is not what I meant. With regards to Volk, I discussed it with the President. We already have the Eight-Nation Alliance as our enemies, so we shouldn't add Volk to the list. If Volk does not take action against us, we only have to put up with their silly and harmless antics. After dealing with the Eight-Nation Alliance, we can settle the score with them.”
Nathan tried to convey his point patiently, but Lucas refused to listen.
Frustrated, Lucas growled, “Okay, I get what you are trying to say. You can tell me anything you want, but in conclusion, you still don't have faith in me or the West Army.”
“What do you mean?” Nathan narrowed his eyes.
“I know you have to look at the bigger picture and don't wish to create more problems. Your priority is dealing with the Eight-Nation Alliance, headed by Ariarica. However, you have no idea how vile Volk is right now. As long as you give me the authority, I can start and end a short war with Volk and teach them a lesson. I can also take Isaiah’s life.”
As Lucas spoke, he gradually noticed
Lucas' glare.
Abruptly, he stopped speaking and silence ensued.
In the end, Lucas picked up the wine glass on the table before him and downed it. Fed up, he stood up and complained, “Forget it. Since Chief Cross does not believe in the West Army's abilities, there is nothing left to say. If you don't want to approve my request, so be it. I shall make a move. Goodbye.”
