Salute To The General (Nathan Cross) novel Chapter 2673

Will slowly lifted his head and glanced at Colin and the rest, who were pointing their guns at him.

After that, he turned his attention toward Nathan.

Slowly, he said, “Nathan, do you know I've been so envious of you all this while? Back then, I was mentored by Mr. Windsor, and I've been with him for decades. I've always thought I'm better than most people, and I've delivered plenty of good results. However, I'm still merely the commander-in-chief of the Capital Garrison. On the other hand, you've risen through the ranks after being valued highly by Mr. Windsor for just a few years, all the way to the Commander-In-Chief of the North Army. You achieved in just a few years what took me decades of struggle! Others had always regarded me as a genius in the military, and I had always thought so until I met you, at least. Compared to how fast you've risen through the ranks, I'm nothing but an ordinary man.”

Nathan replied calmly, “I got to where I am today purely because of how much Mr. Windsor valued me and how much my comrades sacrificed. Without them, I'm nothing.”

Will smiled and said, “You're too humble, don't you think? You guarded the North and won every battle. You defeated the pucks from Xyperia, and you also defeated the Coalition Army all by yourself. You became the God of War that's known all over the world. If you're nothing, how could you have done all that? Although you're very impressive, I refuse to accept my fate. I think if Mr. Windsor had valued me more and sent me to the frontlines instead of letting me stay in Brimmopolis, I could have been a God of War as well.”

Nathan glanced at Will, and he suddenly realized something. Since Will is the commander-in-chief in Brimmopolis, I guess he's usually surrounded by too many prominent figures. That's why he feels inferior and has the desire to climb up the ranks. However, that desire of his has brought him to his grave.

“Maybe,” Nathan uttered flatly.

“You only used a few years' time to get what I struggled to achieve in decades. Recently, you've even become the Chief Military Governor. You're on top of the world. That's why I'm utterly displeased, and I've been dying to have a match with you to see who's better. However, I've never been in a position to do that before today. Now, my opportunity has arrived.” With that, he gradually climbed to his feet and straightened his back. At that moment, he looked rather powerful and regal.

He then stared into Nathan's eyes and said, “Nothing's stopping me from doing that today. Nathan, would you like to have a single combat with me to see who's the superior one, or do you want to execute a criminal? If you want a battle, you may have a go at me. If you want me to die by execution, get your subordinates to shoot now.”
