The whole family knew that Nathan had always put a lot of thought into gifts he chose for others.
For example, the pink diamond ring which he bought for Penny was also worth one hundred million.
Even the pill which Nathan had previously gotten for Sean Smith was worth hundreds of thousands!
No one in the family would believe Nathan even if he had insisted that the red ruby necklace he had chosen as a birthday gift for Leah was a cheap imitation.
Penny fixed her gaze on Nathan and asked him seriously, "Nathan, is mom's red ruby real or fake? How much did you pay for it?”
Before Nathan could answer, Leah said with a stern look, "You have to tell us the truth. Don't lie to us!"
At their insistence, Nathan Cross could only oblige and speak frankly. "That red ruby necklace is actually real. It is a 70-carat red ruby worth over a hundred
million.”
The entire family stared at Nathan in shock.
Upon hearing that, Leah's world seemed to be spinning and she almost fainted from Nathan's revelation. With her lips quivering, she muttered, "It's all over! How could I be so stupid to sell a necklace worth a hundred million for just five thousand! Boohoo... I knew that May wouldn't be so kind to buy over my fake necklace. She even kept raising the price! Now I know it's because she knew that it was the real deal and had intentionally cheated me!"
Leah was devastated by her foolish deed and was feeling tipsy. Benson and Kylie immediately stepped forward to support her and consoled her.
The woman was inconsolable though for she had sold such a precious item for merely five thousand! How could she not be distressed?
She could not stop blaming herself for doing something so stupid. Leah felt that she had done something unforgivable.
"It's all your fault! You should have told us the true value of the necklace earlier. What should we do now? There's no way May would return the necklace when she had gotten such a steal." Penny Smith reprimanded her husband, while joining in to console her mom.
The reason Nathan Cross chose not to tell his family the price of the necklace was to avoid being reproached by them for his extravagant spending.
