As Nathan's challenge commenced, the sky, which was originally shrouded in Eternal Darkness, countless thunderbolts flashed in the sky. A thunderstorm had quietly taken form.
However, what sent everyone wide-eyed and speechless was that the lightning appeared above the scarlet palace like ten thousand silver snakes dancing wildly.
And what was truly astonishing was that the myriad of lightning did not zap down, nor did they explode against each other.
Outside the palace, Max and the other vampires were in shock as they stared at the spectacle before them. They looked at each other in bewilderment, not understanding what was going on.
Right at that moment, Lyanna, who was in the palace, paled. She shouted at the surrounding vampire guards, “A member of the vampires is challenging Patriarch Herod for the throne using the ancient way. No vampires are allowed to interfere in this duel, or they will face divine punishment. Get out, everyone! Don't go within a hundred meters of those two.”
After saying that, she, too, darted out of the hall with a whoosh, fleeing for her life.
The vampire guards in the hall were filled with uncertainty, exchanging glances and feeling unsure of what to do next.
They were Herod's personal bodyguards. According to the rules, no matter what danger they encountered, they had to stay close to Herod's side, providing protection at all times.
Lyanna was just a mere attendant of Herod.
And with Herod keeping silent, the guards dared not obey Lyanna's words, nor did they dare to leave the hall on their own accord, especially with a formidable opponent like Nathan present.
What they did not realize was that, in their moments of indecision, they were silently sealing their own fate.
Herod was exceptionally furious at that moment, his elegance no longer present. He glared at Nathan, his voice filled with hatred as he hissed, “You've actually become a vampire, and even dare to challenge me as one. Who taught you this way of challenging the king? Was it Helen, that wretch? She's the one who turned you into a vampire, isn't she? D*mn it, once I'm done with you, I'll hunt her down to the ends of the earth and kill her.”
Nathan slightly furrowed his brows. Looks like that female vampire called Helen has quite the reputation. Otherwise, Herod wouldn't have lost his composure to such an extent.
However, it was not the time to be curious about Helen's identity.
