Nathan and Dido had just finished breakfast when a guard rushed into the room. After hastily bowing to Dido and Nathan, he seemed to want to speak but hesitated.
Dido's face turned solemn. “Mr. Cross is not an outsider. Speak your mind.”
The guard then answered, “Your Majesty, we have a problem. Rawlinson, Wolfric's special envoy, has arrived. Rawlinson was arrogant and threw his weight around. He forced his way into the city with his car, injuring our soldiers in the process, and then drove wildly through the streets, causing pedestrians to scatter in fear.”
Upon hearing the report, Dido's expression turned cold.
“What is the garrison doing? How can they let others run amok on our territory? It seems that appointing Thomas as the Minister of Defense was indeed the right choice. Our soldiers definitely need proper training.” After saying that, she turned her head toward Nathan and continued, “Mr. Cross, Wolfric's men have arrived, and they're clearly here to cause trouble. The immediate action to embarrass us is meant to force me to submit. What should we do?”
Nathan said with a smile, “Wasn't Thomas just appointed as the Minister of Defense? Just let him know about this minor issue, and let him handle it. If he can't even handle such a small matter, I don't think he should continue as the Minister of Defense.”
Dido's eyes lit up at his suggestion.
Thomas was someone Nathan had recommended. Dido did not know much about Thomas, so by assigning him to deal with Rawlinson, she could also gauge Thomas's capabilities.
A smile returned to her face as she turned to the guard and instructed him, “Go and notify the Minister of Defense, Thomas, immediately. Inform him of the situation and have him handle it right away.”
The guard said, “Understood.”
On the main street, Rawlinson's convoy was barreling towards the palace, causing the pedestrians to scatter in panic.
Wherever the convoy passed, chaos was left in its wake.
The people were all voicing their complaints, yet they were helpless to do anything about it.
At this moment, Rawlinson was sitting in the command vehicle with a smug look on his face. The feeling of causing havoc was truly exhilarating.
His adjutant, Blake, chuckled as he drove. “Sir, running over these Wallera soldiers and sending them flying just now feels so good. I could even feel the sensation of the wheels rolling over their hands and feet. This is even more thrilling than target practice on a regular day. Hahaha!”
Rawlinson sneered, “Many of these soldiers of Wallera are mercenaries and bounty hunters. They're a motley crew. However, many of their officers are retired veterans brought over by Nathan from Eurasia. Those are indeed worth keeping a lookout on.”
