At Polar Jewel in Brimmopolis, Nathan and family were presently having a meal.
It turned out that it was the birthday of his father-in-law, Benson, that day. Benson was a modest man who did not like to make a grand affair of things.
Thus, Nathan adhered to his father-in-law's wishes. The entire family went out for a simple meal as a birthday celebration.
The food at the Polar Jewel was all cooked over firewood. The wood-fired meal there was famous in the whole of Brimmopolis.
And that was exactly why Nathan chose to dine there.
The dishes were plentiful, but they were all home-cooked fare.
There were goulash, grilled fish, and the like. Meanwhile, the soups were oyster stew and fish soup.
Nathan raised his glass with a smile, toasting his father-in-law. “Dad, I've been busy with work. I thank you and Mom for handling everything at home so well. Today is your birthday, so let me offer you a toast.”
Benson's eyes crinkled in delight as he similarly raised his wine glass. “Sure! Let's drink our fill today.”
Beside him, Leah chided, “Practice some moderation in drinking, please. Nathan still has to work! Also, the doctor warned you about your high uric acid levels, yet you still want to drink to your heart's content. It's more like you're hoping to contract gout.”
Upon hearing this, Nathan and Penny could not help but smile.
Just then, Kylie chuckled.
“Uncle Benson, since Aunt Leah doesn't allow you to drink too much, I won't propose a toast to you. Let me take you some food instead!”
After she had finished speaking, she picked up the serving spoon and took an oyster, placing it into Benson's bowl. With a beaming smile, she said, “Uncle Benson, here's to wishing you vitality in your old age, longevity, and a harmonious life with Aunt Leah.”
Nathan, Penny, and others could not help but laugh.
In an instant, Benson blushed deeply.
Leah's face heated as well. In embarrassment, she huffed, “What a brat with no respect for your elders, even making jokes at our expense! Since you're in the mood for jokes, you'd better hurry up and find a husband. It would save us a lot of worry.”
Kylie, who was usually fearless, instantly felt guilty when that matter was brought up. She picked up her bowl and ate with her head hung low, mumbling, “Come on, let's eat and not talk about that anymore.”
Everyone could not help but burst into laughter again.
