Pew!
The colossal beam of light, spewed out by the engine, was heading toward Nathan.
He let out a low shout, raising his left hand.
In front of his left hand, a black vortex appeared in a flash, acting like a black hole that swallowed the beam of light spewing toward it.
Unfortunately, the energy emitted by the engine was genuinely too powerful.
Even someone as strong as Nathan couldn't handle it.
The black vortex before his left hand, upon swallowing the beam of light for only a second, became extremely unstable and exploded with a thunderous boom.
“Mr. Cross!”
“Eve—”
Colin and the rest, as well as the Gods present at the scene, yelled on instinct.
The moment it exploded, Nathan had already grabbed Eve, quickly retreating backward.
Even so, he was still injured, and blood spilled from the corner of his mouth.
On the contrary, Eve was unharmed, thanks to his protection.
For a moment, she looked into Nathan's eyes, her gaze particularly conflicted.
People on the scene, as well as those Gods, rushed over upon hearing the commotion to rescue them.
Nathan turned his head, looked at Eve, and queried, “Are you okay?”
“I... I'm fine... Thank you, Master, for saving me just now.”
Seemingly guilty, she dared not meet his eyes.
In truth, with her skills, she could've long fixed this engine.
Yet, she intentionally did not fix it and kept dragging it on, even tampering with it.
Her motive was to feign an accident when Nathan came for an inspection.
Eve was well aware that he deeply valued her, a God engineer, so he wouldn't bear to see her die in front of him.
She even daringly gambled that he would surely step forward to save her when the accident happened.
Her anticipated outcome was to perish alongside Nathan in this accident.
What she never expected was that almost everything went as she had predicted, except that she had underestimated his strength.
Nathan shook his head. “It's nothing much, but I noticed something odd about Eve's expression earlier. I'm beginning to wonder if she deliberately caused this incident?”
Upon hearing these words, Colin flew into a rage. “How dare she! I'll go right back to finish her off.”
“Forget it!” Nathan called out. “She's the most skilled engineer among these Gods. We still have to rely on her to repair the spaceship. Besides, this is just my speculation. There's no evidence to back it up. Just tell Marcus to be careful not to let Eve tamper with anything behind the scenes.”
“Got it!”
In the following months, Nathan often personally came here to oversee and supervise the repair progress of the Beacon of Dawn spaceship.
Thankfully, since the last engine mishap, there had been no such incidents on-site again.
Unsure if it was due to Eve being aware of Nathan's suspicions, thus not daring to pull any tricks, the repair progress was incredibly fast, which delighted Nathan as he watched.
Of course, over in Adrune, people were still erupting into protest marches and demonstrations every few days, protesting against the coexistence of humans and vampires.
Although Earth Alliance and the high-ranking officials of various countries were managing the situation by the skin of their teeth, the hatred toward the vampires among Adrunians continued to grow day by day.
The vampires within Scarlet Land, who were initially making a concession, also gradually grew impatient.
If it weren't for Hepburn's strict control, they might not be able to resist retaliating against those extreme humans.
These days, Nathan would occasionally exchange opinions with Hepburn, hoping to find a new path suitable for the vampires.
