Salute To The General (Nathan Cross) novel Chapter 660

After killing Ali, Nathan looked at Lenard coldly. "You're one stupid motherf*cker, Lenard. Did you forget what happened?"

Lenard shivered and groveled before Nathan. "Please forgive me, Mr. Cross! I won't do it again! Please let me go!"

"I told you never to do any mischief in Channing, but still you didn't listen,” Nathan said coldly. "Five billion to let you go, and five billion for a fund to help the poor in Channing. Any objections?"

"No." Lenard looked like his mother just died, and he regretted trying to pull this on Nathan.

Five billion? Everyone was stupefied. Man, the Smiths are rich.

Nathan looked at the despondent Lenard. "Get someone to transfer the money to the local government right now. And take this dumb Avalonian away. I don't want to see you."

Lenard tried to weasel his way out of this. "Five billion isn't a small sum, Mr. Cross. I need a few days to work with."

Nathan sneered. "You can do it if you sell some assets. You don't want to give it, do you? Trying to buy some time?"

The color drained from Lenard's face. He denied it, "No, Mr. Cross. I'm not trying to delay my way out of this. I need time!"

Delaying it was exactly what Lenard was trying to do, for he didn't want to give five billion. He thought killing Ali would infuriate Bachok more. General Bachok came to this country with a hundred warriors and a few thousand military personnel around the South who would back him up at any time.
