Savage Mates novel Chapter 31

Chapter Thirty-One: Claim her. Punish her:

The sweet mouth watering scent was coming from him, but along with that was another scent that i knew so well.

Ryan, my best friend. He was my pack. They both were. I should have been elated for them but all I could feel was sadness. There was no way that I could tell them how I was feeling. What was going on, even if the answer tmy problems was his.

“Did you hear me, Jason? Travis said, stepping closer to me. Worry was clear in his bright green eyes. Dimming some of the happiness that he was feeling.

Fuck, I should have been listening to him. Congratulating him for finding his mate. It was just hard to think about anything other than the way that he smelled. How her scent clung to him, making everything inside of me tingle with the need to go after her. “I’m sorry. What did you say?”

“She’s fucking perfect. I can’t wait for you to meet her.” Travis answered, before shaking his head. “Yowanted to talk to me about something?”

“Yeah, maybe we could go somewhere private?” I asked, looking around the club. It was crowded and there were too many ears here that I didn’t want to hear what I was going to have to say to him.

A feral alpha was a dangerous thing and could cause problems between us and the packs that surrounded us. That was something that I wanted to avoid at all costs. If word got out, others would see it as a weakness and strike. Things were going smoothly for us and war was the last thing that I wanted.

“Sure, let me get some water from the bar. Did you want anything?’ Travis asked and I shook my head.

Did I need anything? Yes. But I couldn’t tell him what I needed, couldn’t take the risk that my wolf was howling at me to take. The beast didn’t care that she was mated to my beta and best friend. He knew his mate was here and that’s all he wanted. I could feel him lurking beneath the surface, watching and waiting to see just what she was like.

“You know what? It can wait.” I said. My voice was rough and I worried that he would be able to tell something was wrong.

“Alpha…” He said, looking over at me. His lips pressed together as he took me in. Mentally, I cursed. I didn’t want to do this. “Jason, what’s up?”

“It can wait, you should be… You should be celebrating with your mate.”

“There will be plenty of time for that later. You are my alpha. My friend.” He said and it hit me like a punch in the gut that he was worried about me like this.

Shaking my head, I let out a breath. Trying to clear my head of the scent of their coupling. “Fine, I’ll tell you. Just not here.”

Travis nodded before turning away from me. The two of us made our way to the bar and I watched him slip past the counter. Checking on Clover before reaching into the fridge behind the bar and grabbing three water bottles. I watched him tuck them into his arms before looking at the hazy mirror behind the bar.

I looked on edge. My blond hair was disheveled, falling across my forehead in messy waves. It wasn’t how 1 normally liked to keep my hair, but when I had been leaving Kelly’s straightening myself up had been the furthest thing on my mind. My gray eyes were dark with my beast. I could see him looking back at me. Flickering on the edge of taking over to take what he wanted. What he knewould keep us in control.

“Jason, come with me.” Travis said, stepping out from behind the bar. “Let’s head to my office. We can talk there.”
