I had never seen Grant like this. For all these years he’d been controlled,

composed. I’d never thought him capable of jealousy.

I recalled my past attempts to provoke jealousy in college. I’d played 

hard–to–get, spending time with others.

But Grant had remained unmoved, walking past me without a glance. I

realized then that such tactics wouldn’t affect him.

Now, finally, I saw his jealousy, but it was too late.

I took my phone, attempting to explain, but Wanda was quicker. “It is likely

Rosie’s close friend! Females often refer to their closest companions as mates!”

I didn’t correct her. I retreated to my room and contacted Jake. He began 

with casual conversation.

“Have you eaten?” 

“The rains have been heavy in Austin. What of Dallas?” 

“Austin is growing cooler. Bundle up!”

Initially, I answered, waiting for him to reach the point. But he merely 

continued his small talk. Finally, I snapped.

He finally grew serious.“Do you regret this? Are you certain you wish to

bond with me?”

“You skirted around the issue for this?” I chuckled. He made a solemn “Mm.”
