Hayden saw Caroline enter the hotel before telling her driver, “To Queen Manor.”

“Okay.”

Hayden rested in the backseat and pondered Caroline’s issue.

Those who meant her harm were obviously her family. Madam Fisher and her extended family were the ones who truly wanted Caroline to be the next matriarch.

Celine used to be the heir of the Fisher family but she was not Madam Fisher’s biological daughter. It was unlikely her extended family would allow her to be the successor.

If Caroline could not hold her fort as the true heir, then the daughters of her extended family would start aiming for the position too.

Hayden supposed that those who tried to harm Caroline were her family, and while her extended family might have known about it, they did nothing to stop it.

Although Caroline was the Fishers’ flesh and blood, she did not grow up in the family, and neither did she have much chance to interact with them. Her extended family was worried that she would be even more impartial than Madam Fisher after she became the matriarch.

After all, they did not share a tight bond with her. They only stood a chance if Celine failed at inheriting the position and Caroline was incompetent.

The power struggle within wealthy families had always been cruel. Thinking about it, Madam Fisher could even kill her biological sisters to be the matriarch. They were willing to go to any lengths for wealth and power.

Contrary to the Fisher family’s intense infightings, the Yorks were completely different.

They had always been harmonious. Brothers and cousins would not fight each other for status or money. Education was highly prioritized and each of their children was nurtured to be talented youngsters with varied interests.

They were capable and had been advancing steadily in their preferred industries with each of them successful in their own way. Even if they did not take over the family business, they could survive perfectly fine on their own.

Hayden suddenly understood why her parents adored Kevin so much. Aside from him being on par with her capabilities, they also considered the fact that Kevin had the York family’s backing.

As parents, they hoped their daughter could marry into a good family.

Hayden was deep in rumination, thinking about her and Kevin’s future.

“We’ve arrived, Mr. Queen,” the driver announced, and only then did Hayden snap back to her senses.
