When Caroline returned to the Fisher Enterprise, her takeout had also arrived.
She entered the office building while carrying her takeout.
The employees working overtime in the company were surprised to see Caroline returning at this hour, but they did not inquire further.
In her office, Caroline enjoyed her meal and then poured herself a cup of water. Sitting back at her desk, she sent a message to Darren.
“The plan was perfect.”
After receiving a reply from Darren, she promptly deleted the message and reminded him to do the same.
“How is Mr. Clark?”
Darren sent a voice message.
“Not good at all. He’s in a miserable state, and his marriage with my mom is definitely shattered. However, he doesn’t dare to divorce, and my mom doesn’t want to divorce at the age of seventy. They’ll probably endure each other for the time being.”
For her mother, it was still a significant blow.
Hunter's mistreatment, orchestrating harassment, and his absence of fatherly affection contributed to their strained relationship.
Given his lack of paternal feelings, there was no reason for her to reciprocate with daughterly love either.
Originally, as father and daughter without any emotional connection, they could lead peaceful lives without interfering with each other.
Hunter was biased toward Celine and could not accept Caroline as the successor to the Fisher family. He always schemed against her, and although there were things about him she could tolerate, planning for her to be sexually harassed was out of line.
“My three good brothers and Celine were also punished by my mom. Consider my frustration vented.”
Darren laughed. “They had it coming. Unfortunately, I was not there to witness their misfortune.”
“They don’t dare to go out these days.”
Caroline was in a very cheerful mood.
“I’m busy now. When I’m done, and if you’re free, come over. I’ll treat you to butter escargot and a couple of beers. It’s been a long time since I had those.”
She used to frequent food trucks with friends or colleagues for late-night suppers, often ordering a few appetizers and bottles of beer, and butter escargot had always been a must-have.
Later, she was found by Belinda, who told her that she was the true heiress of the Fisher family. She reluctantly underwent a paternity test several times, proving that she was indeed Belinda’s biological daughter.
She was brought back to the Fisher family and from then on, she identified as Ms. Caroline Fisher.
She started patronizing high-end places. It was not that she despised food trucks or street foods now, but her mother wanted her to discard her old lifestyle and quickly integrate into the upper-class way of life. Occasionally, if she wanted to eat Chinese takeouts, she had to do it discreetly, afraid of being seen by others.
However, Caroline felt much more relaxed when she was with Darren. Whatever she did, he would not object or remind her to keep up appearances. As long as she was happy, that was all that mattered.
That was why she invited Darren to join her for a late-night meal.
Darren replied, “Alright, I’ll come to pick you up in a while.”
