Serenity and Zachary York novel Chapter 2784

Liberty asked, “What do I have that Serenity doesn’t?

“You must persist in going for rehab. When I’m not in Wiltspoon, you have to take care of yourself. If you have time, you can visit Sonny. He’ll probably visit you too. He’s treating you better than how he treats his own father.”

Duncan said smugly, “That’s because I love him with my heart and soul. His father only badmouths me in front of him. Sonny is clever. He knows how to differentiate between the bad guys and the good guys.

“The more Hank badmouths me, the lesser Sonny wants to be with him.”

After speaking, Duncan turned to look at Liberty. Her expression was calm. Her emotions remained stable even when Hank was mentioned.

“What are you looking at? Do you think I still care for that man? He’s just Sonny’s dad now.”

Liberty said, “Do you think I still love him and that I’ll feel down when we talk about him? A long time has passed. How can I still love and be affected by him? I wouldn’t have divorced him if my love for him never changed.

“It’s better to end a doomed marriage early.”

Hank kept his promise. He and his family no longer interfered in Liberty’s life. The only connection between them was Sonny.

However, Hank still could not accept seeing Liberty and Duncan together. He feared Duncan, the future stepfather, was doing better than he was. Hence, he could not resist bad-mouthing Duncan in front of Sonny.

Back when Sonny was afraid of Duncan, Hank would tell him that Duncan was a bad guy. Even then, Sonny had always defended Duncan and dismissed his dad’s criticisms of Duncan, not to mention that Sonny and Duncan’s relationship had strengthened since then.

Whenever Hank and Sonny met, Hank could not stop himself from bad-mouthing Duncan, saying that he was crippled and that his being with Liberty would only drag her down.

He also mentioned that Liberty was going after Duncan’s money and that she was jealous of Serenity marrying into a wealthy family. Now that an opportunity arose, she would do it even if Duncan was disabled.
