Julian stood up to go after her but was stopped by Will.
He turned to see Will and had to suppress his temper. “Will, I’m going to check on her.”
“Don’t go now. Let my sister calm down, and think about it. It’s not that she doesn’t like you, she just needs time to digest this news and accept that your feelings for her are romantic and not just platonic.”
Julian said, “It’s very cold outside, and it’s snowing. I’m afraid she might feel cold.”
“You might feel cold, but she won’t. We’re born and raised in Summervale, accustomed to this kind of winter since childhood. It’s different for you. You came from Wiltspoon, where there’s barely a winter. Quinn won’t get cold. Don’t worry. Let her go outside, get some fresh air, calm down, and think it over.”
Will understood his sister very well.
“Your sudden confession caught her off guard. She needs time to process it. It’s just temporary confusion, there’s no big problem. But you, can’t you wait for a more opportune time to confess? Sending her a bouquet should make your feelings clear, right?”
Julian pursed his lips and said, “Sending her flowers won’t make her understand my feelings. That’s why I needed to say it. If I didn’t, she might never understand. If I give her a truckload of flowers, all she’ll think about is how many pancakes can be made with them.”
Will said, “That’s actually quite likely…”
Quinn would not and could not entertain wild thoughts.
Julian had to let Quinn know that he loved her.
“Will, Quinn going out like this, is she avoiding me? Could she be disgusted that I’m too old? I’m only ten years and four months older than her.”
He was technically eleven years older than her, but if you wanted to be specific, it was just ten years and four months.
Will said with a smile, “Who would think you’re old? If she found you old, would you be able to stay at our place? My mom would have kicked you out long ago. If she didn’t, the rest of us would have kicked you out.
Julian silently took out the photo of Quinn he picked up at the airport. That small photo had been with him all this time. He handed the little photo to Will and said somewhat embarrassedly, “This is the photo I found at Wiltspoon Airport. Quinn had taken the kids to a martial arts competition in Wiltspoon at that time.”
“This is... a little photo on her keychain. So, you found it after she lost it. She mentioned losing it but thought it was just a lost key and didn’t worry much, plus it got lost in Wiltspoon. We didn’t think someone would pick it up or break into our house to steal things.
“It wasn’t a big deal to her. She mentioned it when she came back. Even now, our house’s locks haven’t been changed yet.”
Will thought about taking the key back but gave up. He handed the key, along with the little photo, to Julian, saying, “You found the key to our house. The lock hasn’t been changed yet. You can use it to open the door when you come home at night. I guess this is fate—you found the key, so you’re part of our family now.”
Julian was afraid that Will might take back the photo, but unexpectedly, he gave him the key as well.
Julian quickly accepted it.
