Serenity and Zachary York novel Chapter 2859

Quinn blushed.

She whispered, “Just now, Julian brought us fried chicken. For the record, they’re for the kids, not me. Julian always spoils them, buying whatever they want to eat.

“I just happened to be there. Then, while I was eating, Julian suddenly told me he liked me. He said it wasn’t the kind of affection between friends but the one between a man and a woman. He said it was love, and that he loves me, and wants to marry me.

“Oh, he also gave me a bouquet of flowers. First, he asked me what I thought when I received that bouquet. At that moment, all I could think of was floral pancakes.”

Being stared at by her mother, Quinn spoke softer as her innocence overflowed. “He gave me a bouquet of roses. With so many roses, all I could think of was rose pancakes. He asked me what I thought.

“So I just answered truthfully.”

Zoey, unimpressed, poked her daughter’s head again. “Why are you so clueless? Always thinking about food. If it weren’t for your love of fried chicken, would Julian buy so much for you? Just because it’s cold outside, it doesn’t mean that your body won’t be inflamed by all the fried food you consume.

“I’ll make you some cooling lemon water later.”

“Mom, there’s no need. Julian also bought isotonic drinks for everyone. It has a cooling effect anyway. Besides, our bodies are fit enough.”

Zoey finally relented, saying, “Julian even bought isotonic drinks, a very thoughtful man indeed.”

After saying so, Zoey stared at Quinn for a while before asking, “Did you run back home because Julian suddenly confessed to you?”

“In other families, when a mother hears that her daughter wants to marry far away, she’d be heartbroken and reluctant to let them go. But here, you tell me I can even marry someone from far away, and that you’re okay with it.”

Zoey hummed, “It’s because you can’t get married. If you could, and to such an outstanding man like Julian, I would be so happy. Even my great-grandparents would finally be relieved.”

“Mom, I’m not even married yet. If I do and the ancestors start celebrating, what if I have some other achievements on top of that? Won't our ancestors’ graves explode from excitement?

“I… I didn’t plan to reject Julian. It’s just that I was caught off guard for a moment and felt a bit embarrassed to face him. I’ve never had someone confess to me, I didn’t know how to handle it, so I could only run away, run back home.

“Is dinner ready, Mom? You should go cook.”
