Zachary placed his hand on Serenity’s. “We’ll just show our faces and leave after half an hour.
“Don’t drink any alcohol and stay away from the women. It’ll be better if you don’t leave my side at all.”
“Half an hour sounds good. We don’t have to stick to each other. Everyone distances themselves from me when they see you.”
They knew she was Zachary’s sweetheart. Getting pregnant had been difficult for the couple, so the baby in Serenity’s womb was extra precious. No one dared to get too close to her. They did not want to take the blame if she tripped and fell by accident.
Serenity felt helpless.
While she clearly would not do such a thing, other people did not think so.
Wiltspoon’s elites kept a safe distance from her. They said they would only approach her again after the baby was born.
“It seems like they know their places. It’s best if they stay away from you. Most of them like to smoke, and breathing in secondhand smoke is bad for your health.”
Zachary stopped bringing Serenity along to his business engagements after she had gotten pregnant, worried that breathing in secondhand smoke would also harm the baby.
“Forget it. I’ll go to banquets after giving birth. That woman’s identity has nothing to do with me. Although I find her familiar and we may have met before, I must not know her since I can’t remember who she is.
“Maybe we couldn’t get along.”
Serenity was merely acquaintances with ladies whom she could not get along with. She paid no mind to such people, so it was natural for her not to know them.
Zachary would rather Serenity not tag along to banquets. If she came along, he would linger for half an hour to let her converse with others and relieve her boredom.
Otherwise, he would leave immediately after ten minutes.
Zachary never liked attending banquets anyway. Accompanying his wife at home was a much better option.
Besides, banquets were usually crowded. Even if he could stay by Serenity’s side throughout, he still worried someone might bump into her.
She was like a porcelain doll to him, fragile.
He needed to protect and dote on her. That way, he would be at ease too.
He thought he would never fall in love or marry someone his entire life.
However, the unexpected happened, and he was forced to marry Serenity by Grandma May.
After the marriage, he was confident that he would not fall in love with her, yet he was the first to catch feelings.
Zachary and Serenity were happy with their lives.
It would only get better if they had a daughter.
Zachary was desperate for them to have a daughter.
She smiled and leaned on his shoulder. The happiness she felt was overflowing.
She hoped that she, Liberty, and everyone else she cared about could be happy too.
“I’m going to Aunt Audrey’s place in the evening to visit Alice. I miss the baby too. He’s changing every day, and he’s gotten even cuter. He’ll definitely be as handsome as Sonny when he’s older.”
