Serenity and Zachary York novel Chapter 2939

Hayden picked up the brocade box and opened it to take a look before closing it once more and asking Hugh, “You bought this to coax one of your girlfriends with, didn’t you? It’s not my style.”

She tossed the box back to him.

“I have no shortage of things like these. Kevin has been buying jewelry, women’s clothing, high-heels, and stuff like that for me like mad for the past few days.”

She had a lot of things.

She had more than enough money of her own. If she liked something, she could afford it even if it was expensive.

Her future mother-in-law had also given her a lot of precious jewelry.

It was just that she was not used to wearing them.

Even Grandma May had given her a few expensive pieces of jewelry as a gift upon their first meeting.

Grandma May was born before World War II. Her family was rich but later went through a period of decline before they eventually got back up on their feet.

Some of the jewelry in Grandma May’s collection were valuable antiques.

She had quite a few daughters-in-law and had given each of them some jewelry, but still had a lot left. At first, she had declared that if any of them gave her a granddaughter, she would give half her collection to her granddaughter, but in the end, she could not give any of it away.

Now that she had granddaughters-in-law, all of her choosing, she treated all of them equally. Each one of them would receive gifts of precious jewelry from her.

She was just too rich. Even after giving so many things away, she still had plenty of personal assets.

She also said that she would reward whoever gave her a great-granddaughter generously.

None of the women who married into the York family held much hope for this though.

The Yorks were famous for producing only sons.

They had not had a baby girl born to them for generations.
