Carrie greeted Tasha sweetly and shook her hand.
Next, she looked toward Camryn.
Tasha introduced, “This is my friend, Camryn. She’s the Newman family's young lady and also the York family's second missus.”
Carrie said to Camryn, “So this is Mrs. York? Have we met before? I think we’ve seen each other at a bookstore.”
Camryn’s expression was soft. She smiled. “Yes, we did. I find your voice very familiar.”
Carrie felt nervous.
As expected, Camryn knew her voice well.
‘Calm down. Don’t expose anything. If Camryn notices something, Mr. Longbottom will be furious. I’ll be in great trouble if he gets angry.
‘What is there to be scared of?’
Carrie kept telling herself that there was no need to fear Camryn. It had always been her bullying Camryn.
“Why do you think so? I believe we’ve only met once.”
Carrie pretended to look confused. She said, “We saw each other in a bookstore near Wiltspoon School. I was buying some books for my brother-in-law.”
Camryn maintained her expression. Her voice sounded lovely when she spoke. “You sound like my sister. Without looking at your face, I’d probably think you’re her just by hearing your voice.”
Carrie laughed. “I see. Do I look like your sister as well?”
“No. You two don’t look alike at all. She isn’t as beautiful as you are.”
Camryn was nothing but someone whom she had always trampled over and bullied.
However, Carrie could not say a word to defend herself despite her anger. She kept smiling and said, “I see. Are you a strict and controlling sister that your sister doesn’t dare to appear at the same venues as you?”
Camryn stared at Carrie. After a moment of silence, she said, “Do I seem like a strict sister, Mrs. Longbottom? She has simply wronged me too much and doesn’t dare to meet me because she’s feeling guilty.
“I’m sorry. Let’s stop talking about this, Mrs. Longbottom,” said Camryn apologetically.
Mrs. Longbottom was there to attend a banquet, not listen to her complain about Carrie.
Carrie’s heart roared, ‘Who was in the wrong exactly?’
Camryn bullied her and took over the family assets and villa besides kicking her out of the house and depriving her of money and shelter. She was forced to live poorly, and even the monthly allowance Trenton promised her had decreased by a few thousand dollars under Camryn’s persuasion.
