Chapter 194 Surrounded
Nicholas glanced at Madelline, who had come to find him, and furrowed his brow.
Upon seeing Nicholas, Madelline bit her lip, appearing delicate and vulnerable.
“Nicholas, I’m sorry. I know you don’t want to see me, but I really miss you.”
“Madelline, I think I’ve made myself clear. Since I decided to send you abroad, there has been not connection between us.”
“No…” Madelline shook her head, tears streaming down her face. “How can there be no connection? I was your first love, and we spent so many years together. I believe you still have feelings for me. It’s only because Nancy is your wife that you feel obligated to her.”
“You’re mistaken.” Nicholas’ gaze remained remarkably calm. “The person I love now is Nancy. I care for her not out of obligation, but because I genuinely want to make her happy and give her a fulfilling life. So, Madelline, please let go. It’s better for you, for me, and for Nancy.”
Madelline clutched her chest, waves of pain coursing through her.
She refused to believe a single word Nicholas said. How could he no longer be in love?
She was his first love, his true love. How could he just say he didn’t love her anymore and turn around to fall in love with the woman who ruined their relationship?
“Nicholas.” Madelline looked at him, teary-eyed. “How can you treat me like this? I can accept that you might not love me anymore and that you could fall in love with someone else. But why Nancy? Have you forgotten? She’s the one who ruined us. If it weren’t for her, we wouldn’t have separated.”
“Madelline.” Suddenly, Nicholas raised his voice.
His gaze pierced through her, unusually sharp. “I won’t allow you to slander her.”
“You’re defending her like this?”
“Our separation had nothing to do with her. We broke up long before I married Nancy. Have you. forgotten? You were the one who initiated the breakup. You accused me of not caring for you or looking after you?
As Nicholas spoke, Madelline’s face turned bright red, and she struggled to find words.
“But at the time, I was just acting on impulse, Nicholas, I never actually wanted to break up with you. I love you so much. How could I leave you? It was just a test. It was a way to get you to pamper me. I never imagined that after we split, your grandfather would arrange another marriage for you. Nicholas, I’m sorry. I was wrong. I truly regret it now. If I had known all this would happen, I would never have let us break up.”

Madelline grabbed Nicholas’ arm, crying in a pitiful and heart-wrenching manner.
Nicholas sighed, reaching out to pull down Madelline’s hand from him. “Madelline, sometimes things happen, and once they do, they’re all in the past. Why hold on to something that’s already gone?”
“I love you so much. How can I not hold on? Nicholas, I’m begging you, don’t leave me. I…”
Her eyes were swollen, and her voice trembled. “I ask for nothing. I don’t want an official relationship status. I don’t want any recognition. Just let me stay by your side, please?”
“Impossible,” Nicholas answered without a second thought.
“I won’t hurt Nancy like this. Also, don’t make me look down on you. I’ve said it before, let’s not stay in touch. Let’s treat each other as strangers. It’s better for both of us. Now, please leave.”
Nicholas finished speaking and moved to close the door.
Madelline bit her lip, her heart feeling like it was being torn apart.
Even after she poured out her heart like this and pleaded desperately with him, he remained unmoved.
At the moment when the door was about to close, Madelline suddenly reached out to stop it. “Alright, I promise you. From now on, I won’t bother you anymore. I know you won’t let me stay in the same hotel as you, but it’s so late. Can you bear to let me go back alone?”
“I’ll arrange for someone to take you back, Nicholas said, reaching for his phone.
Madelline immediately declined, “No need. If it’s someone else, I’d rather go back on my own.”
“Nicholas, this is the last stretch. After tonight, we may never see each other again. Could you please see me off one last time?” Madelline earnestly requested.
Seeing that Nicholas didn’t immediately refuse and seemed to be hesitating, Madelline seized the opportunity, saying, “This is my final wish.”
Finally, Nicholas nodded.
Madelline’s face lit up with a smile, overjoyed. “Really, Nicholas? You’ve actually agreed?”
“Yes.”
“Can you wait for me? I need to use the restroom first.”
In the restroom, the pitiful look on Madelline’s face disappeared without a trace. In its place was a face filled with cunning and malice.
She looked in the mirror, her lips curling into a sinister expression. “It’s all because of you, Nancy. Just you wait. I’ll definitely be back. Nicholas is mine. No one can take him away.”

Before leaving the restroom, she took out her phone and made a call, her tone dripping with sinister intent. “Execute Plan B.
Then, she removed the SIM card and tossed it into the trash can.
The streets were exceptionally quiet at 3.00AM.
When Nicholas escorted Madelline outside, the temperature was extremely low, and the wind was howling.
He glanced at Madelline, who was only wearing a long dress. She had already curled shivering ball, her face devoid of color.
In the end, he couldn’t bear it and took off his coat, offering it to her.
“Which way do you need to go?” Nicholas asked.

Since Madelline said her place wasn’t far from here and would only take about a fifteen-minute walk, he hadn’t brought his car.
“To the right. Go past two traffic lights, turn right, and then go past two more traffic lights. We’ll be there, she replied.
