Since Remington thought she was just making a fuss, Lizetta decided she'd let him think that way. In that case, he wouldn't overthink things at least.
With a scoff, Lizetta pushed against the man's hold and sat up from his embrace, saying, “Mr. Dashiell, you’re always caught up in a whirlwind of activities, handling a million things a day. If you weren’t sincere about watching the show, you could’ve simply stayed away.”
As Remington heard this, his eyes softened slightly, and his voice turned mellow, “How can you say I wasn’t sincere? I had to leave because Stella suddenly felt phantom limb pain.”
Lizetta cut him off with a cold laugh, “Oh, her phantom limb sure has a sense of timing.”
“Lizetta!”
Remington’s voice suddenly dropped, interrupting her acrid comments, a stern look crossing his face.
“Why have you become so mean?”
The sight of Stella tormented by her bloody phantom limb wasn’t something one could fake.
Lizetta shivered at his harsh words, her face turning pale, her lips trembling slightly.
She’d almost believed in the man’s persistent attempts to woo her with his tenderness and care this period of time, forgetting he was never really a soft-hearted person.
“I’ve always been a selfish and mean person, Mr. Dashiell. It’s only now you’re realizing it. What? Found out I’m not as adorable as you thought, and now you can’t keep up your act of deep affection? Then don’t. Even I feel exhausted for you.”
She curled her lips into a mocking smile, her eyes filled with scorn, yet the icy barrier around her heart seemed to crack, aching slowly.
Remington’s jaw tightened, a storm brewing in his eyes as he stared at Lizetta as if he could devour her whole.
Lizetta met his gaze defiantly, her eyes reddening.
“Mr. Dashiell, Mr. Dashiell, it sounds so harsh!”
Day by day, it gave him a headache. Remington finally uttered the words after a long while, and then coldly turned away.
He reached out and massaged the bridge of his nose, overwhelmed and helpless against her. He couldn’t scold her, couldn’t argue; even a slightly harsh tone would have her retaliating with ten more, leaving him in pain.

The readers' comments on the novel: Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington)
Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
