"I'm sorry. Maverick, you're my friend, but Zane is something a little more." He nodded and we said our goodbyes. "You're a idiot." I mumbled to Zane as we paid for our shirts.
"No. I'm smart. I saved you from an awkward "this is where I stand" conversation after he tried to kiss you." I could tell he didn't like the idea of him and me alone together but I just rolled my eyes.
"Isn't that what that conversation was back there?" I cleverly asked, walking out of the store.
"I guess." He laughed and pulled me into his side. "Where else?"
"Home. I'm tired."
~Zane's POV~
After a few weeks, the apartment was finished but we were still living in Devina's apartment.
"Zane?" She called from the foyer. "Someone's here for you." I groaned and got out of the bed, hurrying to where she was. There Devina stood with a gun pressed up against her forehead. Her eyes weren't filled with tears, they were wide with fear. I followed the gun up to the face that was holding it and growled.
"Forrest, you better back the hell away from her." I hissed out.
"You took her from me. Now I'm going to take her away from you." In fear of what he might to do her, I lunged forward and knocked the gun out of his hand. I pushed him against the wall across from Devina's door and punched him. His eyes unfocused from me and locked onto something behind me. I turned around also and loosened my grip on his shirt.
"Devina," I warned, wanting her to put the gun down.
"What do you want from me, Forrest?" She screamed pointing the gun directly at Forrest's head.
"Don't you understand Devina? I was coming back for you. I was always going to come back for you. I just had to get everything under control first. I didn't want to scare you or have you run away from me. I want you." I could feel the way her heart beated at his words, making me start to doubt her. Is she going to choose him? She swallowed and looked straight at Forrest. "Devina don't do this. You'll regret it. Forever. Come back to me." She started to lower the gun and closed her eyes. "I'm better for you than him. You know it too." She dropped the gun onto the hardwood floor and opened her rage-filled eyes. Is it towards me or him?
"Get out of my life before I kill you myself." His eyes widened as I let go of him. Speeding away, he left just us. "I love you." She cried. I ran back over to her and pulled her frail body into my strong arms.
"I love you too."
"Let's move today." I nodded. That's probably a good idea.
"Zane do you have the box with my laptop in it?" Devina yelled from the office of our new apartment. I smirked and grabbed the wrapped box.
"No. But I do have this." I handed her the box and she frowned.
