Chapter 66
When Scarlett saw the change in his expression, she was too intimidated to speak again. Taking a closer sniff, she detected a light fragrance as well as a hint of alcohol in the car.
He drank wine, though not in great quantity.
No wonder he took the initiative to search for her; it turned out he had been drinking wine.
Scarlett sighed, knowing that he was not afraid of being caught even though he had drunk wine and was driving.
Sebastian abruptly crushed the cigarette in his hand and locked eyes with her.
“Did you spend the night with Dev?”
When he posed this question, his formerly crimson eyes now held only disdain.
Scarlett gazed into his eyes, hoping to find something else there. Sadly, there was nothing.
Mr. Jackman, “You went to all this trouble to track me down and bring me here, just to ask me this kind of question?”
Sebastian fixed his gaze on her face and demanded, “Give me a response.”
He was exhausted from constantly being misunderstood and had no desire to speak.
Sebastian’s good-looking, thick eyebrows gradually tightened as he saw her silent.
He raised his slender fingers and pinched her chin with one hand. He commanded coldly, “Speak!”
His tone and movements were both weighty and forceful.
Scarlett took a deep breath and stifled the anguish in her heart. She responded nonchalantly, “Would you believe me if I said
no?”
“You stayed in his presidential suite all night and only emerged the following evening? Do you really think I’d believe you?” Sebastian scoffed.
She swallowed the words she wanted to explain and changed her tone. “Since Mr. Jackman thinks I slept with him, why do you need to inquire?”
Sebastian pinched her chin even more firmly. “Did you!?”
Scarlett lowered her gaze and her eyelashes. She uttered softly. “Yes.”
His expression momentarily froze, his peach blossom eyes coldly filled.
“Why?”
“Because of his good looks and wealth, it would be a perfect match for me to marry into a wealthy family.”
“That’s what you said before,” Sebastian sneered.
Scarlett didn’t comprehend what he meant. She inquired, “What do you mean?”
Sebastian said icily, I looked into you and James. He never laid a finger on you. Why did she deceive me with those words?” Sebastian actually investigated her?
This made Scarlett feel a little incredulous.
Raising her head, she looked into his eyes, which were filled with an emotion she couldn’t identify.
He… seemed to be waiting for her explanation.
Despite this, she still had sexual relations with a man.
Although it was not Dev, her body was already unclean.
If they persisted, nothing would be altered. It was preferable to remain in misunderstanding.
Scarlett stifled the hurt in her heart and said to him lightly, “Mr. Jackman, last time, I said those words out of anger towards you. But this time, it’s true. Mr. Gatsby and Mr. Forrest are different. He’s innocent and kind. I really like him.”
She looked very serious, as if she were not lying to him.
Sebastian’s eyes gradually grew darker with unknown emotions.
After a moment of quiet, he inquired icily, “Were you acquainted with him before?”
“I had never seen him before, it was our first encounter yesterday.” Scarlett shook her head.
