Chapter 20

Winston’s brows twisted into a frown. He gazed calmly at Millie as if he agreed that she was a shameless and manipulative woman

Anger and bitterness brewed deep within Millie

She no longer cared what Winston thought of her. Still, she felt like a fool because the latter kept questioning her. With a bitter smile, she snarled, Why don’t we just tell your grandma about our divorce if you think I’m that despicable?”

You wouldn’t dare!Winston stomped forward

He could tell from Selma’s actions that she cared a lot about Winston and Millie’s marriage. It would only cause Selma more trouble if they told her they wanted to get divorced now. Winston refused to make any mistakes before Selma’s birthday celebration

Millie chuckled. Why wouldn’t I dare? Winston, get one thing clear. Selma is your biological grandmother, not mine!”

She had only refrained from telling Selma about it because Selma treated her well. Millie didn’t want Selma to fall ill if she told the

latter about the divorce. It wasn’t because Millie was reluctant to

part with her rotten marriage

I, your exwife, am playing along and making your grandma happy. You should be grateful instead of questioning me! Got it?Millie glowered at him

When she loved Winston, it was like she was seeing things through rosecolored glasses. She would never blame him, no matter how much he hurt her. Now that she no longer loved him, she struggled to like anything about him

Her words sparked fury in Winston, who had long gotten used to her former, more obedient self. These days, she had a more spiky

personality, which upset Winston greatly

Winston stepped ahead, shot her a death glare, and interrogated her. Does that mean I should thank you?”

Shouldn’t you thank me?Millie raised her chin to glare back at him

After all, Winston couldn’t do anything if she wanted to be selfish and cut ties for good by telling Selma about their divorce

Winston grabbed Millie’s grist, his gaze intensifying as he spoke with a low but firm voice. Listen up, Millie. Drop the matter regarding our divorce for now. We’ll discuss it after Grandma’s birthday celebration. If you dare tell her about it beforehand, you’ll bear the consequences alone!”

Millie flung Winston’s hand off her, then scoffed. Mr. Greer, why are you being so arrogant when asking me for help with something?”

Winston sneered after seeing Millie’s detached and emotionless expression. He realized that this was the real Millie; she was sharp- tongued and cruel

Back then, he used to feel slight pity for her. Whenever Joanna got in trouble, he’d question how it was possible for someone as gentle as Millie to pull off so many schemes against Joanna. However, he realized now that executing those vile schemes was no big deal for Millie

Winston’s eyes narrowed to slits as he stared her down. What do you want?”

Millie faced him, thinking it was the first time she had a say between them. As for what she wanted, she voiced it straightforwardly. Winston, let’s go to-”

She wanted to say, Let’s go to the beach together for once.”

Alas, Winston’s phone rang just then

She recalled Winston had specifically chosen this ringtone for Joanna’s calls

Winston raised his phone, glanced at Millie, and answered the call

Win, my car got hit. Please hurry overJoanna sobbed with a trembling voice on the other end of the call

Concern filled Winston’s expression as he soothed her, Don’t be afraid, Jo. Wait there for me. I’ll be right over.”

Millie’s eyes stung as she listened to their conversation

Winston hung up before returning his attention to Millie. Then, he spoke with urgency, as if he were in a rush and only putting up with her antics so he could leave sooner. I’ll give you whatever you want as long as you keep Grandma happy.”

After that, he hopped into his car and left

Millie scoffed at herself while watching him drive away. She had always wanted Winston to go to the beach with her once when she first married him. Yet, he always refused

Now, she wanted to visit the beach to end the chapters of her youth, but her wish still seemed impossible

Millie’s family waited for her on the couch when she returned home that night

She obediently stood before them, awaiting their judgment

Grandpa, this lucky charm doesn’t workMillie mumbled while placing the charm on the coffee table

That baffled Arthur. He wondered how that was possible when it

Layla could tell Millie failed to proceed with the divorce from the latter’s words. She stomped upstairs at once, and anyone could tell from her demeanor that she was furious

GrandmaMillie felt aggrieved. She wanted to divorce Winston, but it wasn’t her fault that an accident occurred

Gosh, I told you she’d go soft!Julia shook her head before leading Terrence upstairs and telling him, Why don’t we research and see if we can have another child? We can’t seem to get through to our current one, after all!”

Millie was briefly speechless but soon snapped, Mom, that’s out of line! How could you think that way?”

She looked ahead to Arthur, who was the last to speak. With a pout, she hugged his arm and whined, Grandpa”

Arthur didn’t ask why she failed to get a divorce. Instead, he asked, Have you heard the latest news? It’s got Yerwick’s citizens all over the place.”

What?Millie was confused

Everyone’s been looking for a topquality medicinal herb called Snowdrop. They want to give a rare birthday gift to Mrs. Greer Senior.”

Millie was puzzled, thinking, How is it that even Grandpa knows about Snowdrop? Just how many people are looking for it?”

She couldn’t understand the craze and asked, Has everyone lost their mind? It’s nothing but a herb.”

You’re wrong. It’s not only a herb. It’ll create a good chance for you to win over the Greer family more! I’ll let you in on a secret but shocking news, said Arthur

Millie’s eyes widened at him with intrigue

The Lowell family is the most desperate to get this herb at the moment,he revealed

Millie frowned in confusion. The Four Great Families are the

Greers, the Websons, the Stringers, and the Lowells. Why would the Lowells still need a mere herb like the Snowdrop to butter up the Greers?”

You can’t figure it out, can you, silly little girl? It’s because the Lowells have an ulterior motive!Arthur picked up his newspaper and deliberately stalled

Millie was getting more anxious, so she urged, Well? Keep alking, Grandpa!”

Sure. Give me a Snowdrop plant, and I’ll continue.Arthur chuckled

He knew Snowdrops was Layla’s favorite herb. It was extra valuable and rare. Few existed in the world

Millie was speechless. Arthur was used to negotiating, so he posed another massive challenge to her
